November 1, 2014 / Voice of Democracy (VOD) Scholarship – THEME/ESSAY: “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” Created in 1947, the Voice of Democracy (VOD) scholarship program is an audio‐essay contest for high school students in grades 9‐12 that annually provides more than $2.3 million in scholarships. The first‐place winner, who competes with all the first‐place VFW Department winners, receives a $30,000 scholarship that is paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Besides competing for the top scholarship prize, as well as other national scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000, each VFW Department’s first‐place winner receives an all‐expense‐paid trip to Washington, D.C. (Final postmark to be considered for Ron Brown Scholarship only) / Ron Brown Scholar Program - Established in 1996 by the privately funded CAP Charitable Foundation, the Ron Brown Scholar Program began awarding college scholarships to outstanding African American students to honor the legacy of service of the late Secretary of Commerce Ronald H. Brown. As the first African American to serve in the cabinet as Secretary of Commerce and the first to serve as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Ron Brown was a figure of global prominence, respected for his intelligence, political savvy and leadership. In April of 1996, he died in a tragic plane crash during a trade mission to Eastern Europe. Since 1996, the Ron Brown Scholar Program has evolved to provide Scholars with more than just academic opportunities, fostering both the strong commitment of service and dedication to future leadership that Ron Brown helped embody. The Ron Brown Scholar Program provides Scholars with the financial resources to attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. Upon acceptance, Scholars are each awarded $40,000 ($10,000 per year for 4 years) that may be used at the college or university of their choice. Essays must describe how an elected official demonstrated political courage by addressing an issue at the local, state, or national level. Essays can be no more than 1,000 words. GMS will select 1,000 talented students to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. January 9, 2015 / APIASF Scholarship Program – The largest provider of scholarships to Asian students, the Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund teams up with corporate sponsors to provide general scholarships to Asian-American students who are interested in pursuing higher education. Students can benefit from a streamlined application process; one application is all you need to apply for the more than ten scholarship opportunities. Most scholarship through the AIPASF will require demonstrated financial need, so make sure that you have completed the FAFSA before you apply. To be eligible for this scholarship program, you must be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity; be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. January 20, 2015 / Ronald McDonald House Scholarship – Currently enrolled high school seniors who are eligible to enroll and attend an institution of higher learning or vocational/technical school with a complete course of study in the year immediately following graduation may apply for only one RMHC scholarship program. Applications due January 5, 2015 / California Association of Collectors, Inc. – This scholarship will be awarded to CaliforniaHigh School seniors for their use as full time students at any accredited public or private college, university or trade school. Scholarship recipients must start attendance within 12 months of the award and show proof of enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours. The essay subject is: “Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Financial Credit During Your College Years.” Entries must be typed; 12 point font, double spaced, and be between 700 and 1,000 words. January 31, 2015 / Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps $180,000 Scholarship – Selected applicants receive: Full tuition and other financial benefits worth up to $180,000. NROTC Units are located at over 150 of the nation’s leading colleges and universities. The Marine Corps NROTC Scholarship is different from the Naval ROTC Scholarship. About 3,000 Naval Scholarships are awarded annually compared to approximately 800 Marine Corps. Individuals can apply via /, however they choose between Navy, Marine and Nurse Corps.
January 31, 2015 / Marine Corps/Navy NROTC Scholarship –This is a full ride good at over 150 universities in the U.S. Scholarship includes money for almost all areas of school expenses including tuition, books, fees and uniforms, along with extra costs associated with being a full‐time student. The first board will be the middle of October 2014! So there is no time to waste for interested applicants. There is no military commitment until the beginning of the sophomore year. The monetary cap is $180,000.00.

March 6, 2015 / American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) DMA Day Essay Contest - The contest aims to challenge students to examine, question, and reflect on important concepts in genetics. Essays are expected to contain substantive, well-reasoned arguments indicative of a depth of understanding of the concepts related to the essay question. (Postmarked) / Caners Foundation - The CANERS Foundation distributes scholarship applications for the benefit of students who are interested in pursuing an education and career in horticulture to all two year and four year colleges from which a horticulture degree can be obtained. General Criteria: Legibility is critical (12-point type preferred - No unusual fonts), grades are important but a B student who participates in horticulture related activities may be selected over the A student who does not participate in FFA or 4-H or other related activities. Current school year letters of recommendation are important. Sources to contact for these letters are noted on the application. Email letters of recommendation are not accepted. Current transcripts need to be included with the application. Computer-generated transcripts (not printed by the school's admissions office) must be signed by the horticulture instructor. Minimum of $2500 award.
