About the Migration News Sheet
The Migration News Sheet (MNS) is a not-for-profit news source focussing on migrants & refugeeswhich is available both on- and offline. It is published by the Migration Policy group (MPG) and covers high impact developmentsin the migration field, such as court rulings, newpolicies or crisis situations, particularly on the European, international and inter-governmental level. Available in paper format since 1985, the MNS website was launched in March 2017. It features daily articles as well as monthly analyses of key topics in the area of migration and asylum. The Paper magazine is also published on a monthly basis and contains the same articles as the website.
Job offers
MPG is currently looking for a Junior or mid-senior editor/journalistto manage all content aspects of the publication: from research to publication.At MPG, we believe in independent journalism. The successful candidate will thereforemaintainregular contacts with sourcesand find ways to get hold of official documents of various intergovernmental institutions which, though often not confidential, are difficult to obtain.S/he will also work independently to produce and distribute the paper publication. A basic knowledge of graphic design tools and a hands-on attitude are therefore necessary.
Key responsibilities
- Seek out news and cross-check references
- Draft articles in an objective and accuratemanner, providing a complete picture for every story
- Publish articles on the website
- Coordinate with other MPG team members for their contribution to thematic analyses
- Format, print and send out the monthly paper magazine
Depending on the candidate’s skills, s/he may also take on communications responsibilities, including:
- Draft and send the bi-monthly newsletter (Mailchimp)
- Promote articles on social networks (Facebook and Twitter)
Type of contract: Part-time. 3 to 4 days /week, depending on the candidate’s online communications skills
Duration of the contract: 5 months, until 31 December 2017

Profile
Professional skills, knowledge and experience / Essential- Higher education degree
- 1 to 3 years of experience drafting articles for online or offline media
- Ability to summarise news, policy documents, and research
- Excellent English (any other language is a plus)
- Excellent proofreading and editing skills
- Basic knowledge of HTML and Content Management Systems (WordPress
- Basic knowledge of graphic design tools such as InDesign, Quark or Microsoft Publisher
- Higherlevel knowledge of HTML and Content Management Systems
- Project Management skills
- Online communications skills

- Very good attention to detail and an eye for accuracy
- Good team-working skills, including flexibility and commitment to the issues
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise own work within agreed parameters

- Ability to work long hours on occasion
