Position Summary:
The Clinical TrialsWorkforceProgram Manager will have responsibility for the scoping of a program to developthe workforces in clinical trials and nursing research and then move into the phase of implementing a pilot of the program. The role will report to the Head of Education and Training Development under the direction of the Executive Director, and will work closely with key stakeholders across the VCCC partners including the Research & Education Lead for Cancer Nursing, the Lead and the Head of Clinical Trial Development and the other members of the education and training team.
Successful delivery of VCCC programs will be achieved by working collaboratively with the10 VCCC members and the various representative committees, as well as liaison with external stakeholders. The Clinical Trials Workforce Development Managerwill play a crucial role in the delivery of the educational components of the VCCC Strategic Research Plan.

The VCCC’s multi-site, multi-disciplinary model brings together the complementary strengths of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne Health (including The Royal Melbourne Hospital), The University of Melbourne, The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, The Royal Women’s Hospital, The Royal Children’s Hospital, Western Health, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (including St Vincent's Institute), Austin Health (including the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and Austin Lifesciences) and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.
The VCCC has a four-year agreement (2016-2020) with the Department of Health and Human Services to develop and implement new and innovative programs under a Strategic Research Plan. The programs of work involving the development of clinical trials nurses and nursing researchers are instrumental to the success of the plan and must be initially scoped up with key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
The Clinical Trials Workforce DevelopmentProgram Manager will be responsible for the following activities:
- Support the implementation of the VCCC vision for integration of research and education with clinical care
- Support the Head of Education and Training to coordinate and facilitate the programs of the VCCC Strategic Research Plan that pertain to clinical trials workforce development and nursing research
In the initial phase
- Scope the major programs pertaining to clinical trials workforce development and nursing research to enable implementation of the Strategic Research Plan
- Scope the development of specific training modules to ensure staff are competent to perform assigned tasks
- Develop, maintain and evaluate a competency training framework and matrix for all roles within the VCCC Clinical Trials Units
In the secondary phase
- Coordinate the planning, development, prototyping, piloting, evaluation and review of face-to-face and online educational projects and programs
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and external consultants to develop educational content and activities
- Liaise with VCCC Communications staff to promote the education and training program to internal and external stakeholders through presentations, reports, articles, social media, web based notifications and newsletters
- Ensure the delivery of all programs to time, budget and satisfaction of all stakeholders
- Prepare status reports for internal and external project management purposes
- Other relevant duties as required
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- Experience in clinical trials coordination or project management
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment that governs Clinical Trial research in Victoria and Australia, including ICH GCP, TGA, and state regulations, and FDA and EMA variants
- Completion of higher degree in either nursing, allied health, pharmacy, science, project management, educationor an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Proven ability to follow direction, work autonomously and collaboration with staff and external stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (inclusive of skills in Microsoft Office)
- Proven organisational ability with a demonstrated ability to work and deliver on multiple projects with conflicting timeframes in a matrix structure
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in managing content development, delivery, promotion and evaluation of educational activities in a complex medical environment
- Knowledge of nursing research principles such asqualitative analysis; co-design; observational studies; pragmatic trials; behavioural; mixed methods etc
- Clinical trial management experience within a pharmaceutical or research or clinical site environment
- Understanding of the drug development process with emphasis on the clinical and regulatory requirements of clinical research
- Previous involvement in cancer related trials
- Experience in conducting systematic literature searches and reviewing information to inform relevant projects
- Experience writing reports, briefs and other written communications for a range of audiences
Remuneration Estimate: $100,000
