5K Trails at South Mecklenburg High School on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway Project

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is inviting public comment on the development of a new 5K Trail (approximately 8,407 linear feet x 10 feet wide) on property owned by Mecklenburg County located south of Sharon Road West and north of James G. Martin Freeway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 5K natural trail will be composed of natural surface (e.g., soil) with locations of slow drainage covered in crushed stone. The 5K Trail will be integrated into the Little Sugar Creek Greenway Project which is also part of the 26 mile Cross Charlotte Trail.

The project is funded in part using a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant. The National Park Service (NPS) is the federal agency responsible for compliance with the LWCF Act and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation (NCDPR) is the State Liaison Office (SLO) administering the LWCF grant program on behalf of the NPS in North Carolina. Mecklenburg County is issuing this public notice on behalf of the NPS and NCDPR to encourage public review and comment on the proposed project and its probable impacts. Comments received will be forwarded to the state and federal authorities for consideration.
