Clue #7:

Tom Martens, who has been very involved in the coin search, brought a tattered and torn parchment to the sheriff’s office. It appeared to be messages from the suspects, perhaps from their death beds…

• Calamity Jane – Seek the red.

• Frank James – To hide a stolen cow, you must freeze the evidence.

• Sitting Bull – Fuel the flame and lift the smoke.

• Charles E. Bowles (Black Bart) – Read the “Case of Summerfield” and head south from the stage coach.

While he was chewing the fat with the sheriff, he shared yet another disturbing dream he had the night before:

Two old & tired ghosts came calling:

Annie Oakley, participant in the Buffalo Bill show, said: “My fancy shooting was not so hot when I was cold…”

Johnnie Baker, Buffalo Bill’s foster son, murmured: “Buffalo Bill was always close to the saloons…”

Clue #6:

In a recent private discussion between the mayor and the sheriff, the mayor lamented to the sheriff that the coin search was frustrating the community and taking them in many random directions. To calm the fretting, the sheriff shared the following fable once told by Buffalo Bill while preparing for a performance:

A young man named Henry was with Olive on a Columbus street corner. They encountered Adam, Jefferson, Madison and Lincoln roaming the streets. When walking North, they spied a feller named Murray. Murray, appearing worried he would tire before reaching his destination, muttered these words under his breath repeatedly, “I must not tarry lest the leaves from the mighty walnut tree will fall and ice may block my way”.

Clue #5:

Tom Martens, local Buffalo Bill historian, had a dream last night he would like to share with the community.

It was a message from Buffalo Bill himself! The setting was as follows: Upon returning home from his European tours in 1886, Buffalo Bill’s ship was docked in Columbus. He was quite annoyed the final coin was still missing. Tom heard him clearly utter, “I want my coin back now! It’s been long enough! It’s time it’s found and returned to me! Anyone finding the coin should call me at #188 prior to 13thth.

Clue #4:
An unusual item was turned into the sheriff’s office on Tuesday. It is a small piece of vellum on which the following words, barely still legible, were printed. Under the sheriff’s authority, permission has been given for release.

“Seek a saw of 30 teeth, as long as a cold winter’s night when there is zero in the air and diamonds of two different constituents abound.”

The sheriff cautioned it may be a western trail to prosperity or a tale of fool’s gold.
