Dear BurbankParents,August 5, 2014

It is a pleasure to welcome your student/child back to another exciting year of learning! We hope that your child’s summer vacation has been memorable and exciting and you had time to spend quality time with your child. Our first day of instruction will be Monday, August 25th.

I am elated to announce that Burbank ES received the highest rating, ¨Met Standards¨, that the state of Texas gives to schools. Burbank amply met all the hard-to-achieve standards and indices this past year. I want to thank students, teachers, and parents for the hard work and support all year long. This is a testament that school and home working together can positively impact learning at school.

Our new theme is “One Team, One Goal, No Limits!” Our theme reflects what we are about at Burbank. Our focus in year 2014-2015 is to create a team-oriented school that supports rigorous learning for all. We believe we can achieve higher levels of learning for all students as we develop a “no limits” and “no excuse” mindset.

Our Burbank stakeholders took the time to complete our Voice survey in May 2014. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know where we have met your expectations and where we can improve our services to students, parents, and the community. Some of the highlights of the Voice results are:

  • 83% agreed or strongly agreed that they are satisfied with the education provided by Burbank ES.
  • 83% agreed or strongly agreed that their child feels welcome at Burbank ES.
  • 77% agreed or strongly agreed that they are satisfied that Burbank is safe and secure.
  • 75% agreed or strongly agreed that the Burbank gives parents opportunities to give input on improving parent involvement and parent engagement.

We want to sincerely thank you for recognizing the hard work done by all of our Burbank staff last school year. We, however, will continue working hard in school year 2014-2015 to improve everyone’s experience at Burbank Elementary as we develop a “no limits” mindset. Two of our major areas of focus will be to continue improving ongoing communication with parents and student safety.

We would love to see you come and meet your child’s teacher on our “Meet the Teacher” on Thursday, August 21st from 4:00-6:00 p.m. for Kindergarten-5th grade students. A special meeting for pre-kindergarten parents will be held at 3:00 p.m. We will have backpacks, Burbank t-shirts and collar shirts for sale during this event.

Please remember as the school year is about to begin that daily school attendance is critical to your child’s success in school. Students should arrive at school each day by 7:45. Please take a few minutes to review our campus procedures for the morning dropoff and afternoon dismissal. We have made some changes to the dismissal procedures after listening to parent input and setting a school committee. Our most important consideration is always student safety.

Sincerely,

Diego Calderón
