Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide you with all of the knowledge required by North Carolina Essential Standardsas set by the North Carolina Department of Instruction. The students will be expected to come to class prepared, determined to succeed, and to be positive. A variety of instructional strategies will be utilized throughout the course. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure that he or she is willing and accepting of a challenge. This course is required by North Carolina and has an End-of-Course (EOC) exam. Students are required to pass Biology in order to graduate.

5.Explain how traits are determined by the structure and function of DNA.

It is expected that all students:
- Are prepared for class each day, which includes but is not limited to necessary materials.
- Turn in their assignments promptly.Late work will not be accepted.
- Work cooperatively with group members, which includes but is not limited to everybody doing their part.
- Stay organized, which includes but not limited to keeping up with important dates and keeping notebooks in order.
- Keep their notebooks neat and in the required order with all assignments complete because it is a grade.
- Utilize my class website and PowerSchool for things such as assignments, notes, and due dates.
- Ask questions or express concerns respectfully when appropriate. I have an open-door policy.
- All students are expected to stay in seats unless otherwise instructed.
- Raise hand and wait to be called upon to speak.
- Enter the classroom in an orderly fashion and begin the bell work.
- Ask for missing work when they have been absent and check PowerSchool and my website to have an idea of what they have missed during their absence.

As a reminder, classroom procedures are given in order to provide a well-organized environment in which productivity is essential. The routines are in place to keep class moving smoothly and quickly.
- It is expected that students follow all the rules and guidelines set by administration.
- It is expected that all students report to class in a timely fashion. The tardy policy found in the Student Handbook will be applied if there is a failure to report to class on time.
- Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. If the work handed in by the student is not his own, then the student will receive a zero for that assignment and given an office referral. The student will not have the opportunity to redo the assignment.
- When entering the classroom students should go directly to their seats and begin working on the assignment that is provided.
- Classroom is not dismissed when the bell rings. Wait until the teacher has finished instruction and then dismisses the class.
- All students are required to return the lab contract in order to be permitted to participate in labs.
- Disrespect to Authority will not be tolerated and will result in an office referral.
