ER Engagement Specialist

Employment Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt (Eight Month Grant Funded Position)
General Description:
The incumbent of this position is responsible for providing community-based services and managing the outreach for individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders who are referred from the emergency room/hospital for medication assisted treatment as a result of an opioid overdose.
Responsibilities:
· Develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with referral sources, emergency departments, community members, donors, volunteers, colleagues, supervisors, employees, and other agency programs.
· Engage consumers in the services offered through the project.
· Follow-up to all referred clients within 24 hours (48 if on a weekend), making every attempt to initiate contact in the emergency room/hospital as appropriate.
· Provide support to individuals in crisis utilizing motivational interviewing and other techniques to encourage participation and engagement in treatment.
· Coordinate a warm hand-off between the person referred and the treatment program.
· Submit monthly reports to BHN to track all contacts and follow-up for stakeholder reporting.
· Participate in developing and implementingcommunity activities that support and promote recovery and include supporting the development of opioid/medication assisted treatment, education,and support groups.
· Track the flexible funds utilized and ensure report is submitted quarterly.
· Submit success stories and needed information quarterly.
· Work closely with ED staff to develop a transition plan for individuals being referred to treatment.
· Provide education on overdose prevention.
· Work with varying ethnicities, cultures, religions, educational levels and socioeconomic statuses.
· Follow-up with clients for missed appointments within 24 hours.
· Provide linkage and referrals to other community services as needed prior to admission to the treatment program.
· Track clients engaged in the project to identify and record key dates of initial engagement, admission, thirty-dayengagement, outcomes at twelve weeks and discharge from the program.
· Participate in treatment planning, clinical staffing, inter-agency team meetings, and stakeholder/steering committee meetings, providing feedback on all pertinent cases.
· Document all the services provided in accordance with established agency policies.
· Assist assigned consumers with discharge process.
· Represent the agency in a professional manner in the community.
· Handle crisis situations as they arise.
· Assist assigned clients in meeting identified needs in conjunction with the clients' treatment plan.
· Provide experiential training in life skills and resource acquisition.
· Provide appropriate assistance for clients in need of medical services.
· Arrange and refer clients for services and resources.
· Demonstrate interest in long-term and short-term goals and objectives of the company.
· Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor, Lead Counselor/Therapist, Lead Relapse Prevention Mentor, Vice President, and/or Executive Team member.
Qualifications:
· Master's degree in Psychology with a concentration in Substance Abuse/Mental Health or closely related field is required; license eligible preferred.
· Lived experience with sustained recovery is strongly preferred.
· Valid MO driver's license with acceptable driving record and current proof of insurance is required.
