New Animated Series on PBS KIDS Wins ‘Outstanding Pre-School Children’s Animated Program’and Other Top Honors at Prestigious Awards Ceremony

Pittsburgh, PA, June 23, 2014 –Peg + Cat, the new animated PBS KIDS math series from The Fred Rogers Company on PBS KIDS, earned a trio of top awards, including “Outstanding Pre-School Children’s Animated Program” at the 41stAnnual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which took place Friday night, June 20, in Los Angeles. The popular program also was honored with Emmys for “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” and “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Production Design.”

Co-created and executive produced by Jennifer Oxley (Little Bill, The Wonder Pets!) and Billy Aronson (Rent, Postcards from Buster),Peg + Catis produced by The Fred RogersCompany forPBS KIDS. Kevin Morrison of The Fred Rogers Company and Vince Commisso of production partner 9 Story Entertainment also serve as executive producers. 9 Story distributes the series internationally.

Series Co-Creator Jennifer Oxley took home the award for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for Production Design,” while Hayley Faith Negrin, the voice of Peg, was honored with “Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Program.” The 11-year-old Negrin was the youngest nominee at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards.

Peg + Catfollows the adorable, spirited Peg and her loyal sidekick Cat, as they embark on a host of hilarious, musicaladventures, learning foundational math concepts along the way. Each episode features engaging stories in which Peg and Cat encounter a problem that requires them to use math and problem solving skills in order to move forward. The series provides young viewers with a new way to experience math and highlights its importance in a variety of everyday situations. Life skills such as cooperation are also core components of the series, as Peg and her friends have to work together to solve problems – and since Peg doesn’t always get it right the first time, viewers get to see the value of experimentation and learning from mistakes. Music is used as a teaching tool throughout the series and each episode features an original song.
