MCR NEWS

MCR Manual

Publication of the MCR Manual for 2014 continues to be on hold pending release of FORDS and SEER manuals for 2014.

Conversion Timing Reminder

Your software vendors should be on track to finish customizing their product for NAACCR and Missouri v14 no later than June. We would like you to convert your software to v14 when you finish abstracting 2013 cases or in July, whichever comes first. MCR plans to convert all of our software, including Web Plus, to v14 in July and to begin accepting cases in v14 by August. It is best to export any completed cases to us before you convert. Don’t complete any 2014 diagnosed cases until after you have converted to v14. If you convert to v14 before Web Plus is converted, just hold the cases until Web Plus is ready (but upload a transmittal form of explanation). We will have more specific announcements as that time approaches.

Our June 11 Live Meeting will address What’s New in CSv2.05 and will have tips on the small amount of manual review that will need to be done during software conversion. This information is on the CS website under Coding Instructions, Version 02.05, Support Documents, Implementation Guide and Release Notes.

Heartbleed

As we reported in a previous blast email, the MCR-ARC Web Plus Data Submission website is not vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug. It is safe to continue to submit your data to MCR-ARC via this website. The MU Division of IT does not host our web site on technology that is susceptible.

Abstracting Tip

Cystoprostatectomy: The surgery code for cystoprostatectomy that is done for bladder primaries is often incorrectly entered as 61. The correct code for this procedure is 71 (see Appendix B of FORDS 2013).Code the most extensive site-specific surgery that was performed for the primary.Note: per MCR Manual p. 63 we use FORDS Appendix B as the authority on site-specific surgery code instructions. If you use Registry Plus Online Help, don’t follow the additional SEER guidelines that have been added in brackets after code 60.

STANDARD SETTER NEWS

ICD-10-CM

On March 31, Congress passed the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) Bill that extends the proposed physician rate reduction for one year, but which also includes language that delays the compliance deadline for converting to the ICD-10 system of diagnostic and procedural coding from October 1, 2014, to not before October 1, 2015.

Standards for Cancer Registries Volume II, Version 16 Data Standards and Data Dictionary:

The NAACCR Standards for Cancer Registries Volume II, Version 15 (2015 Implementation) is scheduled for release by July 1, 2014. From CoC: New FIGO rules to be incorporated in AJCC 8th edition

The International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FIGO) has developed new staging rules for ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancers. These rules will be incorporated into the 8th Edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer’s (AJCC) Cancer Staging System. Until then, all nationally collected U.S. cancer statistics data for ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancers must be based on the current AJCC Cancer Staging Manual (7th Edition).
