TechStart

TechStart is a new not for profit social enterprise which Rushmoor Schools Plus manages. Our aim is to help people bridge the digital divide and get online by offering low cost or free computers, low cost repairs, free training and advice, and work experience opportunities for those seeking employment. We will be grateful if you can promote these services to your colleagues and families.

We are based at Unit 15, The Galleries, Aldershot GU11 1PF and are open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Telephone 01252 311660. Email . Website www.techstart.org.uk.

WHAT’S ON

Climbing Courses at Runway’s End Outdoor Centre

Runway's End Outdoor Centre, 1 Forge Lane, Aldershot GU11 2RE. Email . Telephone 01252 344421. Website http://www3.hants.gov.uk/runwaysend.htm.

Runway's End is running National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) Level 1 and Level 2 courses. NICAS is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It is open to all candidates aged 7 and upwards.


The Level 1 course is from 9.30am to 11.00am on Saturdays 18th and 25th October and 1st November. The cost is £70.00 per person for all 3 sessions which includes a NICAS log book.
The Level 2 course is from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays 15th, 22nd and 29th November. The cost is £100 per person for all 3 sessions.

Runway's End is also running a 2 part climbing Beginners Course which is open to all candidates aged 18 and upwards. Experienced instructors will give you instruction on general climbing safety, belaying your climbing partner, knots, rope work and safe use of climbing equipment, together with lots of practical climbing. Having completed this course most participants should be able to pass an assessment required to use other climbing walls. This course costs £85.00 per person for parts 1 and 2.

Course B01/14 Part 1 Saturday 18th October. Part 2 Saturday 25th October. 9.30am to 12.30pm each day.

Course B02/14 Part 1 Saturday 1st November. Part 2 Saturday 15th November. 9.30am to 12.30pm each day.

Rushmoor and Hart - Activity Providers Taster Day Event

Monday 20th October at Farnborough Leisure Centre, Westmead, Farnborough GU14 7LD – drop in anytime between 10.00am and 3.00pm. Come and try new things to do and see what’s going on in your area. There will be information stands and lots of activities to try. Free entry and it’s free to have a go at the activities.

Aldershot Day Service is leading on the organising of this event with the aim of giving people with a learning disability an idea of what is available locally to enable them to fill their days and evenings. It will also be an opportunity for activity providers to showcase what they do and increase their potential customer base. The event will help in the compiling of a database of information for providers and for people accessing services, as well as providing opportunities for networking and problem solving issues relating to funding or attendance. It may also help to identify gaps in provision that could be filled by current providers.

The Rushmoor Rose Bowl 2014 is being held on Saturday 25th October from 10.00am and Sunday 26th October from 10.30am. This is an international competition featuring Great Britain and England plus teams from Switzerland and Canada. The Commonwealth Games Champion Claudia Fragapane, who won the event last year, will be competing.

Playgym times for children aged 5 and under are 9.30am to 10.30am and 1.30pm to 2.30pm on weekdays.

A new range of courses for the autumn term will be running in the Hart and Rushmoor area including employment preparation, computers, leisure, craft, exercise and languages.

In addition, a range of course discounts is available. All employment preparation courses are free regardless of circumstances. Those in receipt of a means tested benefit get a 50% reduction for most other courses. People who are over 60 receive a 25% discount on most course fees. Wavell Community Playscheme

Monday 27th to Friday 31st October. In the Blenheim Building at Wavell School, Lynchford Road, Farnborough GU14 6BH. Sessions run from 8.30am to 4.30pm (£15.00 per day) or to 5.30pm (£16.00 per day). Please pre-book. A packed lunch is required.

Activities include outside play with the jungle gym, arts, crafts, cooking, construction, board games and den making. This Rushmoor Council run playscheme is for 4 to 11 year olds and is Ofsted registered. 4 year olds must be in Year R at school. The playscheme runs every school holiday, except Christmas. Half Term Half Price Crash Course

Monday 27th to Friday 31st October from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Kings International College, Watchetts Drive, Camberley GU15 2PQ. FFSC is an ASA Approved Teacher Training Centre and runs training courses for trainee swimming teachers. During the October half term, they will be running a teacher training course and are offering a half price swimming crash course. There will be 6 classes of 4 children running every half hour with a trainee teacher on poolside and a trainee teacher in the water with each group. This course is suitable for children aged 3 or above, up to and including Stage 4. It is not suitable for nervous beginners. £21.00 for 5 x 30 minute lessons.
