Pay: Sessional workers are paid £12 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) plus expenses

Place of work: Peripatetic (with a requirement to attend at one of the two hubs for training)

Role Description

Summary

HertsHelp@Home provides home visits to vulnerable, frail or older adults who need assistance to remain comfortable and independent living in their own homes. We plan to recruit a network of Sessional Workers across Hertfordshire to make these home visits to a consistent standard. Visits take approx two hours.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receive referrals for home visits and plan appropriate visits to meet the needs of service users.
  • Undertake home visits using the required methodology and assisting the service user to identify and meet their needs.
  • Make agreed, appropriate onward referrals.
  • Undertake appropriate follow up work.
  • Keep a detailed record of all actions.

General responsibilities (common to everyone)

  • Promote W3RT and its activities, and act in accordance with its principles.
  • Attend meetings and events (including training) as required.
  • Support W3RT’s fundraising and project management.
  • Work within agreed procedures, regulations and systems, including for accounting, expenses, communications, data collection, monitoring, and quality assurance.
  • Establish and maintain professional and supportive relationships with colleagues and with local groups.
  • Undertake such other work as may reasonably be required from time to time.

Knowledge, skills and attributes

The appointed person should demonstrate and maintain the following knowledge, skills and attributes.

Knowledge

  • A good understanding of the health, social, physical, sensory, communication and support needs of vulnerable adults, older people, and carers.
  • A good understanding of the difficulties people might face while seeking to retain their independence.
  • A good understanding of the barriers people might face when trying to access benefits, entitlements or services.
  • A clear understanding that people are individuals and have their own unique history, aspirations, needs, support networks.
  • Practical knowledge of safeguarding and the protection of vulnerable adults.
  • Clear understanding of professional requirements around confidentiality, health and safety, lone working, conflicts of interest, and maintaining professional barriers.
  • Practical working knowledge of other HertsHelp services.
  • A keen understanding of diversity and equalities.

Skills

  • Excellent people and listening skills: help people to articulate their needs or views, confident that you will listen and respond appropriately.
  • Able to understand processes and systems – and explain these to help encourage people better control their lives.
  • Able to help people better manage their affairs, complete application forms, sort paperwork, etc.
  • Able to operate within required procedures.
  • Able to keep accurate, detailed records of actions taken.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting.
