2017-18RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The College of Educationinvites nominations for the College of Education Research and Scholarship Award. One award will be presented for the 2017-2018 academic year and will include a $1,000 prize and a plaque. Recipients will be recognized at the College of Education Convocation.
Eligibility
The award will be given for either:
- A single outstanding publication.
- A compilation, consisting of two or more research publications original contributions of a theoretical nature that make significant contributions, or
- A book or monograph, on a particular topic, that exemplifies outstanding research and scholarship; published within the past five years. Nominee must be sole or first author.
- Types of research include data based, philosophy, policy analysis, review of literature, conceptual models, historical analysis, civically engaged scholarship, quantitative, qualitative or mixed-method research.
- The award may be given to a single author/researcher or to a group of individuals involved in a collaborative research effort. The collaborative effort may include faculty within or across departments or universities as well as faculty and practitioner research endeavors. (In the case of collaboratively-based projects involving more than one faculty member within the college, the $1,000 prize will be shared. No money will be given to collaborators outside the college.)
- Faculty may be career-line or tenure-track and must have completed at least three years of full-time service with the college.
- Awardees within the last five years will not be considered.

- Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. onFebruary 23, 2018.

Nominations
- Nominations may be made by any students, faculty, individuals or departments as a whole.
- Self-nominations will be accepted.
- Eligible nominees will immediately be notified and asked to submit the additional materials.
Criteria for Award
The Faculty Awards Committee will utilize the following criteria:
- Clarity of research problem/investigation
- Significance of research problem/investigation
- Utilization of relevant literature
- Appropriateness and rigor of research method (if applicable)
- Depth and appropriateness of analysis
- Contribution of research to theory, knowledge base, policy, practice and/or further research
- Integration of the two pieces (compilation only)
Subsequent Required Information from the Nominee Includes
- A recent CV.
- The names and contact information for three potential external reviewers. Thereviewers may be contacted at the discretion of the committee.
- A letter of support from the department chair.
- A letter from the nominee(s) addressing how the work or compilation meets the award criteria.
- One copy of the single work (single work award) or one copy of multiple works
(compilation/award) or book/monograph. When a nominee submits a work of which he or she is not the first author for consideration of the compilation award, the nominee should explain in his or her letter the contribution the nominee made to the piece. The Awards Committee values collaboration; members simply want to assess the specific contributions made by the nominee.
- The nominees should not submit edited books. They should simply submit the portions of the book they wrote and note that it is from a book they edited. This will reduce the density of the material which Committee members have to assess.
- Nominee material is due to the Dean’s office by March 10, 2018.
Nominees Not Selected
- Nominees NOT selected for the research and scholarship award do not need to resubmit their files to the Awards Committee to be considered for the awards for the following year.
- To be considered the following year, candidates should update their vitae, their personal statement, and submit any materials missing from the file from the previous year.
- Previous nominees will be contacted by the Awards Committee chair to determine whether they want to be considered for the award the next year.
