VIP alerts Resellers to Stolen
Microsoft Stocks entering Channel
VIP Computer Centre Ltd (VIP), the UK’s leading independent distributor of computer components and peripherals, today warned resellers to be on their guard for stolen Microsoft software entering the market that is no longer suitable for use.
The warning follows the theft of an overnight shipment of goods from Microsoft on 14th January 2008, including several thousand units of software. The license keys of all the stolen software have been de-activated by Microsoft, making the stock useless to anyone who purchases it. Until the stolen goods are recovered resellers are advisedto only purchase stock from an Authorised Microsoft Distributor, such as VIP Computers, to ensure it is genuine. Stock levels have not been impacted by the theft, enabling VIP to continue to fulfil demand.
Mark Lynch, Microsoft Product Manager at VIP Computers,commented: “Although this is a serious incident for VIP and Microsoft, we are working closely with Microsoft, our insurers and the police to try and recover and remove these goods from the channel. I would just want to warn anybody from buying from unauthorised resellers, as there is a risk they may be unknowingly purchasing this stolen stock, which unfortunately cannot be activated due to all the licenses already being identified and cancelled. I would strongly recommend that people looking to purchase Microsoft OEM products do so through anAuthorised Distributor such as ourselves, to ensure the authenticity of your Microsoft product.”
