GERMANY ALUMNI CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
1. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES
Kappa Alpha Psi, a college Greek Letter Fraternity, was founded at Indiana University in 1911. The Fraternity’s fundamental purpose is achievement. The Germany Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was later established in 1964. The chapter established its scholarship program to offer financial assistance to family member dependents of military service members and Department of Defense (DoD) sponsored civilians who are graduating seniors at DoD Dependent Schools. Each year, several scholarships are awarded to deserving students for achieving academic excellence and participating in activities outside of the classroom. Since the inception of the program, over 185 students have received academic scholarships averaging $1,200 each.
2. GUIDELINES
A. Scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis. The following guidelines are applicable when awarding scholarships:
1. Applicants must be a graduating senior in a DoD Dependent School in Europe.
2. Applicants must provide all information requested on the application form(s) and submit a completed application no later than April 1, 2017 online.
3. Applicants must provide an official copy of his/her school transcript and two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from your High School Principal or Guidance Counselor.
4. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher (4.0 Scale).
5. Applicants must submit a typed application. No handwritten applications will be accepted.
B. The following guidelines will be used when administering the scholarships:
1. The scholarship funds will be paid in one installment directly to the college or university registrar office on behalf of the scholarship recipient. Before receiving payment, the applicant must provide official proof of registration to an accredited 2 or 4-year academic institution to the Germany Alumni Chapter prior to the start of the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded. The proof of registration should be mailed to the address on this scholarship application. An electronic copy sent to the electronic mail address on this application is acceptable.
3. SELECTION PROCESS
The Germany Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. will provide $1000 scholarships and above to male or female high school seniors who are preparing to attend college beginning in the Fall 2017 semester. All candidates must answer the following questions in order to qualify for a scholarship. The applicant can use additional sheets of paper, if necessary.
The scholarship committee will award scholarships (not necessarily in this ranked order) based on the applicant’s: academic GPA, content of answers to requested information, completion and neatness of the packet, extra-curricular activities, community service, counselor comments on student’s potential, and letters of recommendation.
