Planning period: 2nd period

Course overview:

Students will learn about our country’s federal, state, and local governments. Instruction will focus on politics but will also include aspects of history, current events, economics, culture, and geography so students can better understand how and why our governing bodies were formed and how they currently function domestically and/or globally.

Materials required everyday for class:

  • your assigned textbook
  • 1-2 inch 3-ring view binder (any color)
  • four tab dividers, labeled in this order - Journals, Vocabulary, Notes/Handouts, Tests
  • college-ruled paper
  • pencil and pen

Absence Policy and Make-up Work:

It is your responsibility to ask me for make-up work when you are absent and the original deadlines will still apply to you. It is not wise to miss my class for tests and quizzes because the make-up exams will be much more difficult than the original.

Tardiness:

Simply put – don’t be late to my class! You will be considered tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings. You will be warned for your first tardy, you will spend 20 minutes after school with me for your second tardy, and anything beyond that will result in a referral.

Phones:

Do not have them out at any time during class! If I see them, I will take them and they may be submitted to the front office for retrieval!

Evaluation:

Grades will be based on quizzes, tests, projects, homework, and participation in class activities.

Tutoring:

I am available to assist during Achieve, my planning period, and before/after school with prior scheduling.

Grading Scale

A = 90 - 100, B = 80 - 89, C = 70 - 79, D = 60 - 69, F = 0 - 59

In order for a student to receive semester credit in any class, he/she must have made a passing grade on the semester average, consisting of two nine-weeks grades (worth 40% each) and the semester exam (worth 20%).
