The birth Register in the Journal of Rev. William Douglas lists Elizabet Edmon, daughter of Jean Edmon, born 13 March 1732/33 and a son Samuel Edmon, son of Jean Edmon, born 22 9ber 1735. No mother was mentioned for either child which is inconsistent with the vast majority of births listed in the Journal. These people were living in the . "Jean" means "John" in French.
There is a John Edmunds who received a Land Patent of 330 acres on both sides of Red Oak Run on 28 Sept 1728 in Brunswick County, Virginia. Although it is not clear whether this is the same John Edmunds who was in Goochland County, Virginia by 1731, it is a possibility.
The Goochland County, Virginia Court Order Book contains references of tithables for Parker's Road on 20 March 1731 and John Edmunds is one of the tithable listed.
There is a Goochland County, Virginia Court Order Book has the following sequence of records:
1. May Court of 1736: "We present Anne Cole for a Bastard child, John Edmunds for living in adultery with his maid Mary, and she for having a Bastard child." "We" is referring to the Goochland County Grand Jury.
2. Court Order Book 4, page 83: "Grand Jury vs Edmund - On the presentment of the Grand Jury against John Edmunds and his maid Mary it is ordered that they be summoned to appear at the next court."
3. Court Order Book 4, page 384: "Church Wardens vs. Watkins - On the information brought by the Church Wardens of St. James Parish against Mary Watkins, the sheriff having returned the summons executed, and the defendant failing to appear it is ordered that an attachment do issue against the bondy of the defendant and returned to the next court.
4. Court Order Book, June Court 1739 - "The Information of the Church wardens of St. James's Parish against Mary Watkins is dismissed - no proof".
On the above evidence, I have reached a logical assumption that Mary Watkins was the mother of John Edmund's children. Whether they were legally married when James Edmunds was born in 1743 or not is not clear. In fact, they may have been married in the eyes of the Quaker religion (the Watkins family is said to have been of the Quaker faith) or of the French Huguenot religious belief, however, no officially considered married according to the established Church of England.
John Edmonds revived a Land Patent of 200 acres in Albemarle County, on the South side of the Tye River on 10 March 1756.
John Edmonds wrote his will on 13 Dec. 1782 as a resident of Amherst County, Virginia and it was proved in Court in Amherst County, Virginia on 7 June 1784. An Alexander Edmonds witnessed the will of John Edmonds which was written on 13 December1782 who is believed to be his grandson, son of James Edmunds, born in 1763. John Edmonds did not mention his son, John, in his will because his son John predeceased him.
There is a 4 April 1782 Amherst County, Virginia Court Order Book entry showing that a John Edmunds and many others made a claim for property impressed or taken for public service in support of the Revolutionary War. I do not know whether this claim was made of John Edmunds, Sr. who died

in 1784 or his son, John Edmunds who died in 1783. Whichever John Edmunds this applies to should qualify for DAR or SAR entry.
There is a long standing rumor (and published account) that John Edmunds is the grandson of Howell Edmunds who died in Surry County, Virginia in 1729 (Will written 24 Dec. 1728, proved 20 Aug. 1729) and his wife, Elizabeth Blunt, through his reported son John Edmunds who married Rebecca Browne. Although John Edmunds who married Mary Watkins may have some collateral kinship to Howell Edmunds and Elizabeth Blunt, he is not his lineal descendant. First, Howell Edmunds did not have a son, John, according to his will. His will mentions three sons, Nicholas, Thomas and Howell, Jr. The will sometimes abbreviates Thomas' name as "Tho" and undoubtedly somebody has misinterpreted "Tho" to be John. Second, the John Edmunds who married Rebecca Brown was the son of Thomas Edmunds and his wife, Ann Simmons, grandson of Howell Edmunds who died in 1729. His father, Thomas died an untimely death in Surry County, Virginia in 1737 without a will. His son, John was involved in guardianship proceedings in Surry County, Virginia between 1744-1748. Rebecca Brown, whose father, Henry Browne, also died an untimely death prior to 1744, was also involved in guardianship proceeding in Surry County, Virginia between 1744-1748. So John Edmunds and Rebecca Brown married no earlier than 1748. The earliest they could have had a child was 1749, at least 18 years after my John Edmunds had his first child. My John Edmunds was born about 1740, about 40 years before the John Edmunds who married Rebecca Browne began having children. The dates simply do not allow my John Edmunds to fit in as a descendant of Howell Edmunds who died in 1729.
