The campaign is designed to raise awareness about positive solutions to major social problems facing young people, such as teen dating violence, sexual assault, and bullying, and online harassment.

2015 RESPECT! Challenge Overview:

For the last several years the annual RESPECT Challenge was run as a national competition that asked the following question: “Who would you like to thank for teaching you Respect?”. Individuals across the country submitted their responses via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Vine. One Grand Prize winner and twelve regional winners were selected.

This year, the question will be modified to specifically address positive solutions in response to online bullying, shaming, and harassment. Individuals will be challenged to come up with positive hashtags, sticky slogans, and other types of visual and/or written responses that do not exceed 140 characters. Weekly winners will be selected for 6 consecutive weeks between September-October, 2015, and one grand prize national winner will be selected in November 2015.

Prizes may include but may not be limited to the following:

  • $10,000 donation to school or nonprofit of the winner’s choice
  • VIP Trip to NYC (including airfare and hotel) to attend Macy’s July 4th Fireworks Show
  • $2,500 educational stipend and $2500 donation to school or nonprofit of choice
  • $250 Macy’s gift card.

Leadership Training:

All RESPECT! Challenge Captains will be required to attend a two day Leadership Training program at FUTURES’ headquarters in the Presidio of San Francisco, CA on Sept. 16-17, 2015. (Travel & accommodations to be covered by FUTURES).

We envision this training to be both informative and interactive as well as an opportunity for the twelve Captains to share tried and true organizing tips and strategies with each other. Over the course of these two days, Captains will meet with representatives from both Macy’s and FUTURES, and they will be deeply immersed in The RESPECT! Campaign, the Challenge, the contents of the RESPECT! Challenge Toolkit, and the variety of core programmatic offerings that Futures Without Violence administers across the country. FUTURES will also provide the RESPECT! Captains with all of the necessary tools and information you need to be successful in all presentations about the Challenge.

Ongoing support including webinars, phone & email communications will also be provided.
