TI-30 Instructions
1. Prepare Calculator Settings
a. mode
b. Make sure the entire Left Column is highlighted
2. Edit Lists
a. Data
b. Put x-coordinates under L1
c. Put y-coordinates under L2
3. Find the Equation for the Line of Best Fit
a. 2nd Data
b. #2
c. Make sure your xDATA has L1 and your yDATA has L2.
d. Scroll Down to CALC and hit enter
e. Scroll down and look for a = and b =.
f. The calculator knows y = mx + b as y = ax + b.
g. Plug a in for slope.
h. Plug b in for y-intercept.
4. Clearing Lists
a. Data
b. Data
c. Type the number of the list you wish to clear.
TI-83 (or better) Instructions
1. Turning On Diagnostic Settings
a. 2nd #0 (to go to the Catalog)
b. Scroll Down to “DiagnosticOn”
c. Enter (to select DiagnosticOn)
d. Enter (to perform DiagnosticOn)
2. Turning on the Scatterplot
a. 2nd y= (to go to the Catalog)
b. Enter (to prepare plot #1)
c. Enter (to turn on plot #1)
d. 2nd Mode (to get back to the main screen)
3. Edit Lists
a. Stat
b. Enter
c. Put x-coordinates under L1
d. Put y-coordinates under L2
e. 2nd Mode (to get back to the main screen)
4. Adjust Window
a. The minimum x-value (Xmin) should be 0 or just below the smallest x-value.
b. The maximum x-value (Xmax) should be a little greater than the largest x-value.
c. The x-scale (Xscl) should be the Xmax divided by 10 or so.
d. The minimum y-value (Ymin) should be 0 or just below the smallest y-value.
e. The maximum y-value (Ymax) should be a little greater than the largest y-value.
f. The y-scale (Yscl) should be the Ymax divided by 10 or so.
g. Xres = 1
5. Graph
6. Find the Equation for the Line of Best Fit
a. Stat
b. à (Right Arrow Key – to move to CALC)
c. #4 (LinReg ax+b)
d. Enter
7. Clearing Lists (DO NOT DELETE LISTS)
