Call to Worship

How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God;

how vast is the sum of them.

If I should count them they are more than the sand.

When I awake I am still with you.

(Psalm 139: 17-18)

Silence

Please fill out the welcome cards and any prayers you would like to share this morning.

The ushers will collect them as we are still and aware

Let us pray as we gather together in God’s presence.

O God who brought me from the rest of last night

to the new light of this day,

Bring me in the new light of this day

to the guiding light of the eternal.

Lead me, O God, on the journey of justice.

Guide me, O God, on the pathways of peace.

Renew me, O God, by the well-springs of grace.

Today, tonight and forever. Amen.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.

Praise God, all creatures high and low.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise God in Jesus fully known:

Creator, Word, and Spirit one.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

*Prayer of Dedication

All that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours, O Lord,

and of your own we give you.

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things.

Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts:

ourselves, our time, and our possessions.

Use us, and what we have gathered,

in feeding the world with your love;

through the one who gave himself for us,

Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Intercessions

We pray together.

May those without shelter be under your guarding this day, O Christ.

May the wandering find places of welcome.

O son of the tears of the wounds, of the piercings,

may your cross this day be shielding them.

Let us bring our concerns to God’s loving care.

Prayers for the coming day, for the world,

for others, and for ourselves.

As we depart, let us pray.

On my heart and on my house, the blessing of God.

In my coming and in my going, the peace of God.

In my life and in my seeking, the love of God.

At my end and new beginning, the arms of God

to welcome me and bring me home. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A HEARTFELT WELCOME is extended to all who are worshiping here this day and especially to those of you who are visiting. We appreciate your signing the fellowship pads, including your address and telephone number and, if you are new to First Presbyterian, introducing yourself to the pastor.

NURSERY CARE for infants and toddlers is available in the nursery located at the top of the hallway on the first floor. We provide nursery care for our youngest worshippers so that they may enjoy their “church time” in a developmentally appropriate space. Worship kits are available for our older children and can be found in the hallway outside the chapel.

A TIME FOR FELLOWSHIP will be held following worship today in SJM Fellowship Hall. Please stay and greet one another and enjoy the refreshments provided by the Hospitality Committee.

THE LITURGIST this morning is David Marshall. THE GREETER and USHERS today are Oliver Hagel, Donna Beal and Pat Kinney.

THE HOUSE and the HUNGRY. The Mission Committee is asking your help in providing for the Birdie Turner House. The “house” is set up in SJM Fellowship Hall and you can bring your donation of paper products, laundry and bath soap, cleaning products, personal care items, and bath, hand towels and wash cloths and leave them during church hours. The Mission Committee continues to help the food pantry at First Covenant. The next food pantry will be on Tuesday, September 20. We encourage you to help with “a meal for the month.” September’s meal items are peanut butter & jelly, pears, Spaghetti O’s, carrots, and pancake mix. The food can be left in the basket in the Fellowship Hall.
