COURSE DESCRIPTION
Patients’ mental health issues can adversely impact TB treatment adherence and completion, as well as successful contact investigation. This web-based conference will enable TB control workers to better serve TB patients with mental health needs.
TARGET AUDIENCE
TB control staff who work in clinical or field settings.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss how mental health issues impact completion of TB treatment and contact investigations
- Describe three common mental health problems
- List the signs and symptoms of these disorders
- Discuss what treatments are available
- Outline techniques for handling these issues in the clinic or field setting
- Recognize when to refer patients to mental health services

CONFERENCE REQUIREMENTS
Registration is limited to individuals within the Northeastern Region, which includes Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia, and the cities of Baltimore, Detroit, New York City and Philadelphia.
Participants must have Internet access (high speed preferred), a speaker phone, and an email address to receive course information. If multiple persons wish to participate at one site, there is no limit to the number of participants. However, sites must identify a contact person to receive conference information and collect and submit completed evaluation forms and sign-in sheet.

Registration will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Presentation will be recorded and archived on the NJMS Global Tuberculosis Institute Website.
This conference is free, however, there is a $10 charge per person for Continuing Education Units (CEU). Participants may sign up for CEUs on the sign in sheet which will be emailed just prior to the conference. Payment is due one week after the completion of the conference.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
The UMDNJ-Center for Continuing and Outreach Education certifies that this continuing education offering meets the criteria for up to .2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), as defined by the National Task Force on the Continuing Education Unit, provided the activity is completed as designed. One CEU is awarded for 10 contact hours of instruction.
