MOONRAKER WINTER LEAGUE 2012/2013
Dear Clubs, 10th October 2012
2012/2013 Winter League Programme. Twenty three teams will be competingthisyear.
Note: Swimmers age this year is at9th March 2013 (last day of competition).
New for this year we have a specific document for your team lists, this should help us and you keep track of your swimmers and allow us to get results out much quicker. Team lists have to be in two weeks before the first day of competition.
Just a reminder that the league is self financing, the pool hire is paid by the county and so the proceeds from the door and raffle should be sent to our Hon. Treasurer, as soon as possible.
Note treasurer is:
Graham Reeve, 137 Goddard Avenue, SwindonSN1 4HX – email:
There is a help document to ensure you provide the correct number of officials.
Download it from the Wilts website. A copy of the swim programme is also here.
As always the speed of the results relies on the host clubs to get the times to me as quickly as possible.
I need the recorders sheets with times, the judges/timekeeper slips, club team sheets complete with any amendments and the referees report. To save time and money, if the host club can hand the results to a Swindon based club on the night then I can receive the results on the Sunday. If not, we will just have to rely on the post.
Results will be emailed out to designated club addresses and posted on the Wilts website;
Disciplines / Swimming /Leagues Section
Notice of updates to the website are tweeted on the Competition@WiltsASA Twitter account.
Your swimmers listsshould have been with me no later than Saturday 10th November - or it costs you £20 per team. For those clubs with more than one team there needs to be one list per team.
The best of luck for 2012/2013.55 Albion Street

League History:
The competition format on this scale is probably unique in swimming, on each of the qualifying rounds it collates 936 times with the help of 8 referees, 4 starters,
24 judges, 8 chief timekeepers, 46 timekeepers, countless other helpers and of course the swimmers - about 700 of them.
The winter league has been in existence for over 35 years but only changed to its
current scoring method in 1995.
It is a competition of 39 relay events, each event being scored on position.
Ideally a pool with enough lanes for each competing club is needed but there are not
many of these around so we compete in separate pools and each event time is collated
to calculate the points.
As there are 24 teams the fastest gets 24 points and so on down to one point for the slowest. No points are allocated for a disqualification or if a team does not compete.
Although the league is swam as two divisions, points are awarded as one, the divisions are formed so that clubs of comparable strength can compete together.
A winning team is usually announced at each gala but these points do not count towards the overall ranking and are just an extra bit of fun on the night.
After three rounds the league positions will dictate which teams compete in the top final for the Winter League Trophy and which teams compete in the other finals.
At this time the top ranked Division 2 team are the Division 2 Champions.
All previous points are discarded in the finals and each gala is run as a separate event on a straighthead to head so timekeepers are not required..
The top 12 teams at the end of the Winter League will compete as Division 1 in the following year’s competition and the remainder as Division 2.
