The minutes were noted and had been approved at the Ordinary Meeting of Staveley Town Council on 14 November 2017.
229/ME/17 / MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF THE LEISURE AND COMMUNITY COMMITTEE OF STAVELEY TOWN COUNCIL HELD ON 25 OCTOBER 2017
Councillor L Derbyshire enquired about the soil tests at the Barrow Hill allotments. The Town Clerk and Financial Officer replied that there had not been any feedback yet from Chesterfield Borough Council but he would progress the situation with Mike Brymer.
230/ME/17 / SPEEDWELL ROOMS AND COMMUNITY CAFÉ
The Town Clerk and Financial Officer gave an update on the progress with the community café:
·  The community café was launched to the public today
(29 November)
·  27 members of the public attended which was satisfactory for the opening session
·  The informal feedback was very complimentary and publicity has been put out to the local schools and senior citizen organisations
·  Much of the upgrade to the kitchen is complete, however, the new dishwasher and combi oven are yet to arrive
Councillor B Dyke proposed a vote of thanks to all the volunteers who have helped to get the café off the ground and also to Councillor H Elliott for her hard work and leadership.
The Town Clerk and Financial Officer advised the Committee that October had seen record room hire bookings for the Speedwell Rooms.
The majority of the 2017/18 capital works improvements are drawing to a close and it is hoped that the Council will be in a position to invest more in the facility in the next fiscal year.
231/ME/17 / CHRISTMAS MARKET
The Town Clerk and Financial Officer informed the Committee that over 60 stallholders had paid for their slots on the Christmas market and preparations were well advanced. The Christmas tree is to be erected on Friday 1 December and the various Christmas lights will be installed over the weekend
(2/3 December).
A visiting Santa has been secured for the event and numerous operational preparations have been made to ensure that the ice risk runs successfully.
Norbriggs Choir will be appearing during the evening.
Councillor B Dyke asked if the Town Clerk and Financial Officer could contact the organisation who supply miniature show horses in an attempt to book them for the market.
A discussion was held amongst the committee members relating to preparations for the Staveley Town Councillors’ stall.
232/ME/17 / REMEMBRANCE 2017 AND 2018
It was agreed that the 2017 remembrance service had been a successful event and feedback had been positive both informally and formally.
The Town Clerk and Financial Officer was authorised to attend future meetings relating to the planning of the 2018 event.
233/ME/17 / ELDERLY PERSONS CHRISTMAS PARTY
At the time of the meeting, 108 tickets had been issued for this event. A singer had been booked following an advertising campaign by Councillor B Dyke and the committee members will be preparing the buffet as usual.
It was proposed that the Chair of Staveley Town Council approach the stallholders on the Christmas market to ask for raffle prize donations for the elderly persons event.
234/ME/17 / FIREWORKS AND HALLOWEEN – REVIEW
The Committee were complimentary about this event and it was RESOLVED that the Town Clerk and Financial Officer examines the feasibility of extending and varying the firework display in 2018.
It was proposed that the entrances to King George V Park be cleared of leaves prior to the 2018 event and that any gaps in the hedge/fencing be blocked.
235/ME/17 / PANTOMIME
The pantomime is to be held on Thursday 11 January at 7pm.
This year it is Jack and the Beanstalk and advertising for the event will commence after the Christmas market on 6 December.
