EDITOR'S NOTE: A significant obstacle for many teacher candidates is that the State of Michigan requires secondary certification candidates to have a teachable major AND minor. In general, the challenge for teacher preparation institutions is to meet the intensive preparation standards, program course hour requirements, and national accreditation expectations mandated by the State.
