September Newsletter

Welcome one and all to Ms. Donnas Preschool class! I have a lot of fun as well as educational activities planned for us over the upcoming year. We will start off with an apple picking trip to Elwood Orchards located in Londonderry, N.H. We will go on a hayride where we will see a corn maze, a pumpkin patch as well as lots of delicious apples! We will pick our own bag of apples but first, we will sing a song and recite a poem for our good friend Mr. Elwood. (We have been apple picking at this farm for more years than I can remember!) When we are finishedwe will have a picnic snack and listen to an apple story. In order for us to have a safe trip, we will need at least 4 chaperones/drivers. If you are unable to attend, please send in your child’s carseat toinstall in another parents car along with their signed permission slip and their “peanut free” snack as usual. We will be leaving school promptly at 8:30 and arriving back to school by 11:30. Please dress your child comfortably and sneakers are the safest shoes to wear.

We will be having a parent orientation night on Thursday, September 14th at 6:00. This is very important to attend especially if you are a new family to the school. We will be going over school as well as classroom policies. This is an adult only evening so if one parent can attend, that’s fine. There will be sign up sheets available for room parents, classroom volunteers etc. We ask that everyone check the webpage faithfully as calendars/newsletters and updates will be available here. The calendar/newsletter will also be posted outside the classroom on our bulletin board, along with our sign up book for volunteer opportunities.

I would like to ask if you could all send in a family photo (one that can be glued) as we will be using it to put on a coloring paper of our house. This will be put on display in our classroom all year long, for the children to look at, if they miss their loved ones.

Please send in a small, healthy “peanut free” snack with your child to school each day. We have a snack basket to put them in right outside the classroom door. Please make selections easy for the children to open/handle/eat. It becomes quite taxing for them if they have too many choices to make. A water bottle and a piece of fruit are always best! Please remember to label any/all belongings. You’d be surprised at how many duplicate water bottles, lunch boxes, backpacks, etc there are.

Please remember to dress your child comfortably in clothes that are easy to pull up and down when using the bathroom. We do lot of painting/messy projects so bear this in mind when they want to get all “gussied up! Smocks are used of course but somehow paint ends up underneath! Gym day will be on Thursday, so please remember to send your child in with gym attire and sneakers. Lace up shoes are usually very trying for preschoolers. They are fascinated with the laces which usually means they will be untying them several times a day which causes a tripping hazzard as well as being a big distraction for them. Most children learn totie their ownshoes in kindergarten/first grade so its best to wait until then.

Thank you to everyone for the wonderfully generous supply of tissues, gluesticks, Clorox wipes etc. You wouldn’t believe how quickly we go through these items! Thank you also for your consideration regarding our classroom peanut allergy policy. Eliana and her family also thank you very much!

We are also very fortunate to have “Mrs. Janet” helping out by volunteering in our classroom most Tuesdays and Wednesdays! She was a teacher in our preschool class a dozen years or so ago but needed to leave to take care of her elderly mother. We welcome her back with open arms and I’m sure the children will love her. Thank you for your help Mrs. Janet!

I am getting to know your wonderful children and am very proud of the strides they have already made! It’s not easy being away from mom, dad, our families for what may be the very first time. They are truly wonderful little beings! I look forward to a fabulous year!

Please remember to come to mewith any questions or concerns and that you are welcome in our classroom any time!

Sincerely,

Ms. Donna
