Business 211 Homework Requirements
1. All homework must be typed. Exceptions: Chapter 1 homework does NOT have to be typed. In addition, on Chapter 2-13 homework: You may make corrections or add a few words by hand if you discover that there is more to add after printing, but it must be legible. Any handwriting that is difficult or impossible to read will result in zero credit (assigned to that part of the problem in which the grader had difficulty reading).
2. The problems must be in the correct order. It is unacceptable to turn in homework in which the problems are out of order. Likewise, all pages must be in correct order.
3. Answers must be clearly labeled. The best way to clearly label your answers is to put a box around them—if you go under FORMAT|CELLS in Excel. It is also suggested that you put the word “answer:” by your solution. In addition, you MUST clearly label each problem and sub-problem:
Example: 1, 2, 3, 3a, 3b, 3c, 4, 4a, 5 (if there is several parts to a problem, don’t forget to include the letter after the number).
4. You MUST show all work to receive partial credit. In chapters 1-6, & 11-13 acceptable work is your inputs (specify the values you entered into Excel or PHStat), and also any formulas you used. If you make a mistake, but show work you may potentially receive full credit depending on how close you are. Even if you don’t receive full credit, showing work will result in at least moderate partial credit.
4a. In Chapters 7-10, you must show all work to receive full credit. Just putting the answer down in chapters 7-10 results in a score of 25% (the answers in chapters 7-10 are worth 25%, the work is worth 75%).
5. When a problem asks you to explain in words, you must use complete sentences and run the spell checker. Excessive spelling problems and/or incomplete sentences are unacceptable.
6. Staple your homework! Make sure all your pages are in the correct order. Unstapled homework has the potential to be misplaced (its easy to lose track of a page if not stapled). Do NOT take the chance. If homework is unstapled and a page(s) is lost, you will NOT be allowed to redo it.
Justification (for above requirements): In the business world, there is no tolerance for sloppy work. Reports are expected to be done correctly the first time, and procrastination usually results in poor performance.
Excessive violations of the above requirements may result in 5%-10% grade reduction on a homework assignment. In addition, homework that looks sloppy, rushed, incomplete, or if its apparent that little effort was put into it will not be given as much slack when graded.
Recommendations (not required, but suggested).
1. Do the homework BEFORE lab. If you wait until lab and try to do it the last second, you may not have time to complete it. Furthermore, from past semesters students that rush and do sloppy homework the last minute usually end up with poor scores. Take your time, and take pride in your work.
2. If you cannot complete a homework assignment, turn it in late. Homework missing problems, or done incorrectly, may result in excessive loss of points. On the other hand, homework that is done very well but is a week late will only lose 10%--so a 95% on a well-done homework would still be worth 85% if a week late.
3. Suggested font is 12 point Times New Roman. This is usually the easiest font to read, and furthermore the 12-point size is good on the eyes.
4. If you are having problems learning the material, contact Dr. Seward immediately. Go to office hours!
