ASSEMBLYWOMAN DEBORAH GLICK SHARES HER STORY WITH THE HUDSON PRIDE FOUNDATION’S YOUTH DISCUSSION GROUP
from L to R: Jamie Trachtenberg, LMSW, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick,
Martha Harvey, Executive Director, Hudson Pride Foundation
Assemblywoman Deborah Glick helped kick off the Hudson Pride Foundation’s Youth Discussion Group’s Special Guest Speaker Series with a bang, joining the group yesterday at the Hudson Opera House to share her story of political activism in her continued fight for LGBT equality as New York’s very first openly gay politician.
Glick talked about her personal struggles with coming out, both personally & professionally. Glick also talked about her personal commitment to encouraging New York state schools to adopt & enforce the Dignity for All Students act, legislation that she introduced and that was signed into law in 2010 by then Governor David Paterson. In February 2007, Deborah was appointed Chair of the Assembly’s Higher Education Committee, which oversees all private and public higher education institutions, financial assistance for students, and professional licensing.
“Bullying in schools is a problem that no one can afford to ignore”, said Glick, “students, teachers, & school administrators all need to receive awareness training to help stem this ongoing problem.”
“The Hudson Pride Foundation is honored to have Deborah’s support. It means so much to us and the community to know that she is working to help the students of New York State. As a local Columbia County LGBT non-profit, we all need to work together to make a positive difference.”, said Martha Harvey, Hudson Pride Foundation’s Executive Director.
On November 6, the Hudson Pride Foundation will welcome special guest Genna Suraci. Suraci is Principal of Ulster BOCES in Port Ewen and transgender advocate. This event will be open to everyone.
