SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Communications Assistant is responsible for working closely with the Communications Director in order to provide quality support in the area of graphic design and communication. For example, he/she will help the Director with the design, marketing and communication efforts of various church events and church-wide publications. Main duties will include the writing, graphic design and desktop publishing of various church-wide collateral materials and the Church’s website.
Additionally, he/she will practice personal disciplines that reflect the Christian faith and the ability to communicate that faith through witness and example.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Helps to prepare, format and print ASC bulletin and newsletters.
· Maintains the church website and social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter)
· Assists with developing internal publications such as newsletters, email announcements, planned publications, video, special projects and assignments.
· Work directly with ministry leaders, gathering information to be published in the weekly publications.
· Assists with the production of annual publications, including: Outreach Report, Stewardship and Ministry Guides, the parish Annual Report, and the Christian education schedule of classes.
· Works with volunteers in editing and production of print and electronic materials

Education and/or Experience
· Preferred: Degree in communications or similar professional area or pertinent experience in the use of desktop publishing software to produce newsletters or an equivalent publication, particularly experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
· Experience with website and social media utilization as vehicles for marketing and mass communication.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
· Familiar with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
· Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
· Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign).
· Proficient with website content management systems
· Willingness to learn new communications technology and skills to maintain efficiency and relevance.
· Proficient in printing and publication processes, particularly the differing needs across media (web vs. print).
