News

·  Art Galleries up in the main foyer and in office, more to come

·  April Loughrey is coming back to school on a job hardening program. Mike Angell continues as part of the education plan for band students.

·  Kevin Godden came last Thursday and walked the building and talked about our program repeating what he has said in the past “At ASIA, you get it.”

·  New direction of school: Visual and Performing Arts focus, particularly with Secondary, integration continues at all levels; new name January 2015 or September 2015

·  Kevin also commissioned a video be made about ASIA; we are working on that right now.

·  Staff have decided to go with May 29th, time TBA, waiting on labour talks

School Planning

·  School Plan and School Goals 2014-15

o  Directed to roll over this year’s plan, however we have a new goal, established by team leaders.

o  Will meet with the SPA to clarify and finalize the School Goals.

·  School Planning Advisory functions as a separate entity than PAC. Who would like to be a part of the SPA for May/June 2014 as we develop the course schedule, the budget and the school plan?

·  Numbers 2014-15: consistent with last month. Half of our Grade 8 population is leaving citing new school has more options, new school is within walking distance, transportation fees are an issue, and students want more course choice and more boys.

AIR

·  Completion of the picnic table – Grade 7 Math; payment of Linda Klippenstein.

·  Completion of the Social Justice 12 fabric art project.

Susie Green is working with Dance (requesting 2 more days)

Suggestion by Marlene to put in 160, and the PAC would put in 160. Approved by KT. Voted and passed.

Suggestion by staff member

Senior student (or team of students) art contest each year where students submitted a proposal to create a public art piece within, outside, or on the grounds of ASIA. If they won, you could allow them to create it and leave it up. It would be like a legacy. Maybe even see if PAC would contribute for the cost of supplies. If we and the PAC were really progressive and cutting edge and amazing, it might become a talking point in the community and perhaps people would come to see?

Suggestion to put it forward next year as an April deadline contest.

Suggestion that PAC commit a set amount of money, and beyond that, fundraising would take place by the students involved in the project.
