MISS MISKIMMIN’S LESSON PLANS FOR WEEKS OF 11/29, 12/05, 12/12, and 12/19:

The following are the standards that will be targeted throughout this unit.

1.  Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text (CC1.3.8.A)

2.  Analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision (CC.1.3.8.C)

3.  Analyze the influence of the words and phrases in a text including figurative and connotative meanings; and how they shape meaning and tone (CC.1.3.8.F)

4.  Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by directors or actors (CC.1.3.8.G)

5.  Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade-level reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies and tools.

6.  Demonstrate a grade-appropriate command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling (CC.1.4.8.F)

1.  Finish any final discussion pieces from the research component

2.  View a brief clip of A Christmas Carol to understand setting and mood of the novel

  1. Reader’s Response Entry #1: In your notebook, record a thorough description of Scrooge including one quote with a page number. This needs to be completed on a separate sheet of paper. Define words as necessary.

Friday, 12/02:

1.  Return to p. 5 (p. 622-orange lit book) and reread the discussion between Scrooge and his nephew. Reader response entry #2. Students will analyze this scene for homework.

  9. List the 5 regrets that Scrooge reveals during Stave 2.
