ADVISORY NOTIFICATION
Summary:
This advisory notification informs the sector that we areadding two new codes to the ministry’s code sets. Neither of these two new codes will be eligible to be reported to the national collections, but they will be available for use in the ambulance and DHB ED systems as new software is rolled out that requires these codes.
National Collections Impacted by Change: / None
Context of the Change:
At the request of DHBs/Ambulance Services, two new codes need to be added to the ministry’s code sets. These relate to ambulance serviceswhich are implementing a new solutionthat enables ambulance officers to digitally record their clinical impressions, observations and interventions as they attend to patients. An ambulance care summary is created for every clinical contact between a patient and an ambulance officer in attendancesand whena patient’scare is transferred to other health services. The new solution stores structured and coded information as an ambulance care summary electronic document. The stored ambulance care summary documents will have standard metadata that enables them to be distinguished from other document types; new ambulance health specialty and facility type codes are required to enable this.
Details of Proposed Change:
We are adding codes to two of the Ministry’s code sets:
- to the Facility Type code set:
- Code: 26
- Description: Ambulance
- to the Health Speciality code set:
- Code: A02
- Description: Ambulance officers and paramedics
What is Expected of the Sector:
To use the new codes as required internally within the DHB.
These two codes are not to be submitted to the national collections.

There are no expected changes to the national collection(s).
