Layout and Build Plan for Instructional Garden – HangingGardens

Ellen Adriance

The tutorial hanging gardens are based on the HangingGardens of Babylon, as depicted in Figure 1, and Figure 2. Following these figures is the description of the interpretation of the elements. He builders may vary from Figure 1 and 2 in their design choices, but should stick to the layout that will be chosen, a garden with walls or without walls. Please review the supporting documentsInstructional Garden (IG) ID Power Point , Instructional Garden ID OutlineandLanding/Teleport Power Point.

The landing area should be built with the gardens and will receive more direction from Xenon Darrow, along with this documentation.

Please note that though Figures 1 and 2 depict background blues with yellow flowers, the color theme is not yellow and blue, and many different flowers may be used. The artistic inspiration and palette should be taken from Maxfield Parrish which may be viewed at

Garden Layout

Garden Elements

Ishtar Gate

  • Is the one element that should resemble how it looks in real life
  • Will be entrance to garden, may be several gate entrances OR exit for landing area (see Page 12 )
  • Will have script to open as a pretest to see if user can follow simple directions (see page 3,Instructional Garden ID Outline)
  • Can use Tile from replica at for texture
  • Gate shown in Figure 3 below has the gate high, as if entering from a hill, which is a device that may be used if garden is built on slope, which is preferred (see notes on landing area below).
  • Sample of stairs that can be used if needed

Walls

  • May match the gate or view other interpretations at
  • One wall may be higher than other to allow for sight lines to see garden from landing area, if garden is built on slope, see landing area page 12
  • Blue walls help the illusion of a sky background

Figure 8Figure 9

Terraces

  • Number of terraces will depend on amount of land allotted and can be adjusted from design
  • Each terrace, whether full or semi-circle is the space allotted for each tutorial; current design presented on page 5 allows for 22 terrace stations
  • Hanging baskets or terraces may be added in the sky if more stations are needed

Figure 10 terrace Birdseye viewFigure 11 Terrace

Signs

  • As stated in the Instructional Garden ID Outline, each station, on each terrace, should be clearly marked
  • Signs may be blended in the theme, chiseled stone, or perhaps a flying banner
  • Signs / Stations should be enumerated and titled

Learning Station Posts

  • Column or pillars or something more creative as the object to be clicked on for each step in learning station
  • Possibly thought bubble over column

Path Indicator

  • Subtle, playful or obvious, an indicator of path to various stations, noted by grouping titles or areas
  • The foot prints are just an an example, swirling ribbon, arrows and period style tile may be used
  • Floor of garden may be builders choice tile, grass, combination

Fountain

  • Can be replicated as shown with water stream / statuary left to builder’s choice
  • Can be the place for a tutorial on water, allowing learners to leave their version of water for display

Figure 12 Fountain

Stairs

  • Stairs are to and through terrace and should include greenery, Figure 1
  • Not the formal stairs Ishtar Gate

Figure 13 Terrace Stairs

Mountains

  • Are optional, but add nicely to the effect see figure 1.

Figure 14

Water

  • Optional, but adds nice effect, Figure 15 above
  • Must account for run off? Perhaps not, it is a fantasy world, or can have a small stream, aqueduct in front of terraces
  • Possibly a pose ball to allow learners to ride down water fall, like a water slide

Figure 15

Optional Work / Display Area

  • A dais per Figure 1
  • May have pillars, domes
  • Requires definition of function: additional work area or area where students display work

Dragons, Lions and Bulls of the Ishtar Gate and Bubble Transport

Though not part of, by relevant to the garden’s physical layout and build, are the animated creatures that may run around the area, the dragons, lions and bulls of the Ishtar Gate. They may be found running around, perhaps rezzing and leaping from the wall of the gate on which they are painted. As explained in a sign at the landing area, if you click on them something happens – a particle party of flowers or hearts, perhaps a freebie of some sort is offered. In the garden itself, these creatures will lead learners to the first tutorial.

Please view the several interpretations from where the several representation of the Ishtar Gate show winged creatures. Any fanciful creature will do.

Another device that may be implemented is a bubble transport, where avatars step in a particle display of bubbles, and are a captured by one and float in the bubble to the higher levels of the tutorials.

The garden builders are not tasked with creating these additional elements.

Landing Area

See requirements on page 2, Instructional Garden ID Outline and review Landing/Teleport Power Point

  • Circular area surrounded by information or exit
  • Map of Locations sign their descriptions, listing tutorials, tag lines elaborating tutorial’s, additional areas locations are included, such as play area
  • Description of rewards sign and participation in rewards activities
  • Web tutorials sign and how to use two screens for these tutorials.
  • Explanation of Lions and Dragons sign, how to click and what will happen, or a hint
  • elumenata sandbox and VIP group sign suggesting learner join, explaining they can then participate in chat with other learners, giving and getting advice
  • Any general advance organizers, such as one build/edit box compared with annotated commands
  • Elevated landing area based on Figure 16 below; note the elevation gives full sightlines to the Theatre, the main event
  • Statuary that may display skills to be taught, on the ancient theme

Or, if the garden is not enclosed by walls, the gate can be at the landing area

Same layout would be used, only one half of the layout is implemented.

Ishtar Gate would be a landing site as mentioned above.
