  • Kerry Riley is the new cultural diversity coordinator – congrats!
  • Thanks to Tom Hogue also for acting as interim cultural diversity program coordinator.
  • SLO assessment cycle- we are working todevelopaccurate ways to evaluate student learning outcomes by the end of spring. This is extremely important for accreditation.

SENATE REPORT- Randal Parker, John Queen & Peggy Renner

  • It was decided that every departmental SLO should be included in every course syllabus, rather than on the course outline.
  • Instructors are also going to be required to put a statement on their syllabiregarding students with disabilities.
  • Current issues in the Senate include whether or not there should be plusses and minuses on the grades, the f and wf, and student repeats (students can take a class for a 3rd time and we’d get money for it).
  • There are other changes coming in Title V but none that really affect our division.

. GUILD REPORT- Gordon Alexandre and Richard Kamei

  • Prop 92 has been high on the radar. They have more than exceeded their goal of 35k for the state.
  • January 15 from 12-1:30, there is an event- a rally and media event for prop 92. They have instituted a policy of meeting with new faculty on the 4th Tuesday of every month.
  • The Guild is currently developing relations with the GTA (Glendale teachers assn), which is a good thing.
  • We have had a number of campus safety issues- they are working to make the process more clear.
  • The Guild is currently working on the following: stipends in lieu of release time (3500 per term), calendars- they signed off on a 2 year calendar, healthcare for adjuncts- they are trying to stretch out the funds.
