AL & CHRIS HANNA EAGLESCOUTSCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

To ensure that your application is reviewed and processed as quickly and accurately as possible, please read and follow these procedures and requirements as written.

PROCEDURES

The Scout applying for a scholarship must:

Complete the application personally.

Enclose only the items requested in the requirements (no biographies, resumes, or supplementary lists of activities).

Answer all questions on the application. (“See attached” is not an acceptable answer.)

Enclose appropriate attachments (i.e., statement of financial need, recommendations, and high school transcript); with no more than 4 pages of recommendations.

Include the applicant’s full and last name on each enclosure in the upper right hand corner.

Submit all supplemental information with the application form to ensure that all items are available for review at the same time. (Samoset Council, BSA cannot assume responsibility for matching items that come in separately.)

Be advised that only those applications received by 5:00 p.m. on or before December 15thwill be considered.

Be advised that applications become the property of the selections committee and will not be returned to the applicant. The Selections Committee will informall applicants of its decision in writingby January 30th.

Awardees must attend the Formal recognition event to be publically recognized as recipients of the Scholarship Fund such as the Annual Eagle Banquet held every February.

REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must:

Be currently registered with Samoset Council, BSA.

Have been granted the Eagle Scout rank or the equivalent advancement rank in any of the BSA programs, or verify that their application for such rank has been received at the national office.

Submit application no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 15th.

Provide a transcript of high school grades covering six semesters only. The transcript must be “official”.

Please note, a final “official” grade report can be submitted to the Scout Office no later than January 15 by 5:00 pm.

Submit photocopy of ACT and/or SAT score unless score is included on transcript.

Have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of Scouting.

*(1) Provide a statement by the applicant clearly stating why he believes he needs financial aid, signed by the applicant and countersigned by the parent or guardian.

*(2) Provide one signed recommendation letter from a volunteer leader or a professional Scouter who knows the Scout’s history. This is the only endorsement required.

*(3) Attach a brief statement no greater than or equal to 500 words entitled, “What receiving this Al & Chris Hanna Eagle Scout Scholarship would mean to me.”

Financial Need Details

Return to the first page of this application. Reread the “Procedures” and “Requirements” sections. Check to be sure that you have followed the instructions and that you have enclosed all necessary supplemental information.

Mail or return application to the Eagle Scout Scholarship Committee, Samoset Council, BSA, 3511 Camp Phillips Road, Weston, WI 54476. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on December 15th.

This application becomes the property of the selections committee and will not be returned to the applicant. The selections committee will inform all applicants of their decision in writing. It is mandatory that all scholarship recipients attend (in full uniform) either the council's Annual Meeting, or Gathering of Eagles, date to be announced; or other event locations also to be announced.

Authorization and Additional Agreements

I hereby authorize the Al & Chris Hanna EagleScout Scholarship Fund Selection Committee to request and obtain any further information they deem necessary.

This Application is for Scholarships that are provided through the Al & Chris Hanna EagleScout Scholarship Fund. Following is a brief outline of the Scholarship and its requirements.

The Applicant awarded a scholarship must agree to the following conditions before accepting it.

  1. During the duration of the scholarship, you will register and maintain status as a full-time student at the college/university you select.
  2. Through your college/university, you will provide Samoset Council, BSA with verification of your status as a full-time student according to the criteria of the academic institution.
  3. I understand that if I should receive this Scholarship I will have to maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  4. All funds are paid directly to your college/university for tuition, books and administrative fees determined by the academic institution.
  5. The scholarship is limited to use at a college/university that is accredited by recognized accreditation agencies.
  6. The scholarship is not available to students attending any of the United States of America Military Academies; because these institutions are funded by the government.
  7. The scholarship is paid for one academic year directly to the academic bursar’s office or equivalent student billing office.
  8. I understand that if I should receive this scholarship, I will maintain my active membership in the Boy Scouts of America and/or in Alpha Phi Omega.
  9. Scholarships are available for approval and renewal for each year, for a maximum 4 total years of study. The applicant must request renewal prior to each semester with a formal letter of application for renewal subject to the approval of the Selection Committee in Samoset Council, BSA.
  10. The first application will be acceptable for continuous semesters. However, you are required to submit a letter requesting renewal of the Scholarship support with the most recent official academic transcripts and a statement indicating your need for continued financial support.
