Anatomy & PhysiologyPlanning Periods: 6th & 8th
Course Overview: Anatomy & Physiologyis a laboratory course that focuses on many specific aspects of the human body. During the year, we will be discussing individual topics such as the systems of the body, locations of individual body organs, & the diseases that affect these organs. This course is designed to be both academically challenging & realistic for students pursuing medical careers or planning to continue their education in the field of biology.
Homework, Classwork, and Lab Work: As a result of the principles and terminology discussed during the year, homework will be a crucial element in your learning process. When homework is assigned it will be turned in on its due date. I will not accept late homework. Classwork and Laboratory activities will be assigned according to the topic of study. Homework, Classwork, and Handouts MUST be kept in a loose-leaf binder during the entire year. Notes will be kept in order in a section of the notebook. Binders will be checked at my discretion. The binder will be set up accordingly:
1.)Signed Syllabus
2.)Color Sheet Directions
3.)Prefixes, Roots, & Suffixes notes
4.)Class Notes, Handouts, Homework, Classwork, & Quizzes (in order of the chapter)
Labs will be kept in the composition notebook from last year. Lab report format will vary depending on the lab. Once completing the lab a due date will be assigned, & the lab table of contents will be updated. Lab makeups are in essay form. Formal lab reports must contain the following:
1.)Title of the lab activity and date
2.)Objective - what the lab was about, what were you looking for
3.)Materials and Lab Procedure that was used during the lab - must be complete
4.)Lab Results and Conclusions (includes drawings, calculations, questions, etc)
***I will not accept late lab reports
Dissections: Students will be dissecting fetal pigs in May; however, any student who does not have a C or better for that Quarter grading period will not be allowed to participate in the hands on dissection, Instead, the student will be participating in a virtual dissection using computer software. They will be tested the same as those doing hands on dissection.
Class Projects: Students will be assigned different projects throughout the year dealing with the topic of study. The students may be given oral as well as written presentations on their chosen topic.
Tests: Tests will be given at the end of the assigned chapter(s). The tests will cover the material discussed via Notes, Readings, Classwork, Homework, Handouts, Quizzes, and Labs. Tests count 30% of the student’s grade. At the end of each semester, a semester exam will be given covering all the material presented in both quarters. The 1st Semester exam counts as 2 test grades and the 2nd Semester exam counts 20% of your yearly grade.
Extra Credit: It will be at my discretion which activities can apply towards the extra credit.
Makeup Work: It will be the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to make up tests and assignments promptly. Labs are made up by essay. Homework will be due the day the student returns. If a student misses a test, the student will make up the test the day they return. Medical and other certified absences will be taken into consideration. If you know you will be missing a day, turn your assignment in early or get with me about what you will be missing that day. Missed assignments & notes can be found on the school website. Handouts will be found on the Assignment Board at the front of the class. Notes are a very crucial part of your success in my class. Failure to copy missed notes will lead to failure on tests.
