Job Title:House Assistant

Department:Facilities

Responsible to:Buildings Manager (Line Manager)

Buildings Officer (Supervision)

Duty Managers – Front of House (Supervision)

Purpose: Maintain thesafety and guard the security of the buildings and staff providing a welcoming reception and information service. Set up events and be an appointed person for dealing with emergencies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Open up and close both theatre buildings meticulously following set security and safety procedures.
  • Be an appointed person for dealing with and co-ordinating emergencies of all types including supervision of audience and staff evacuations.
  • Guard the Theatres and boundaries against unauthorised access, by maintaining a security presence in public areas detecting and preventing disorder, damage and theft.
  • Carry out building safety and equipment checks including, escape routes and muster points, fire fighting apparatus, first aid provisions, emergency lighting and other critical equipment.
  • Operate, monitor and test fire alarm, CCTV, security access and building management systems.
  • Provide a high profile welcoming and comprehensive reception service and operate the Theatres phone switchboard.
  • Be a proficient and effective communicator, and confident in the use ofpublic address and 2 way radios systems.
  • Set up rooms, foyers and spaces for conferences, meetings and events.
  • Collect, process and post the organisations mail
  • Work with the Front of house team during performances undertaking fireperson and security guard duties, dealing with any emergencies or disturbances.
  • Undertake other appropriate duties as and when required, including administrative tasks, as well as being asked to work flexible hours to suit the operation of the organisation.
  • Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.
  • Following training you will be a designated First Aider and have defined responsibilities for security and conflict management. It is a requirement of the role that you undertake and pass training in: Security and Conflict Management; First Aid at Work; operating a Defibrillator.

Essential:

  • Confident and calm manner capable of managing conflict.
  • Excellent customer service skills enhancing a high quality experience for our diverse range ofaudiences and visitors.
  • Physically fit enough to carry out daily tasks including moving and lifting furniture and equipment.
  • A team-player who is personable, diplomatic and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Evidence of an understanding and implementation of excellent standards of Health & Safety.
  • Excellent communication skills including a good standard of spoken and written English.
  • Good ICT skills.
  • Flexible working within the hours that a theatre demands.
  • Must live within 8 miles travelling distance of the Theatre.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience inprovidingexcellent reception service.
  • Previous experience of being responsible for key holding and security.

MAIN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Pay:£17,886.96per year (£8.82 per hour). Premium payment will be paid for hours worked; after midnight, before 8 am, Sundays and Public Holidays.

Probation:Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of 6 months’ probation

Hours:This is an annualised hours’ contract based on a guaranteed average of 39 hours per week. Hours worked above or below 39 in any one week (within certain limits) will not alter the standard pay. Hours worked in excess of the contracted annual total will be paid. Additional hours including Sundays and Public Holidays may be necessary in accordance with the requirements of the organisation.

Holidays:Holiday entitlement is 5 weeks 4 days per year increasing by a day each year up to a maximum of 6 weeks 4 days after five years’ service. This holiday entitlement includes Public Holidays.

Pension: On successful completion of the probationary period you are eligible to join a defined benefits pension scheme (The People’s Pension) with an employer contribution of 3.5% of basic pay and a minimum matching employee contribution. During your probation you will be auto enrolled into The People’s Pension in accordance with statutory deadlines and contributions.
