Instruments of the Orchestra Assessment for Learning

During this unit you will learn about the Instruments of the Orchestra through a series of project based learning activities. Assessment is split into two components:

Part 1: Using Keynote or Powerpoint, compile a portfolio of all of the instruments of the orchestra. For each individual instrument, you must include the name, a picture and a short description of how the sound is created. Use the checklist below to make sure that you’ve included all of the required instruments. The majority of work for this part will be completed during class time.

Part 2: Tone Colour worksheet and Venn Diagram.

1) Choose three instruments from the orchestra. The instruments must be from three different families.

2) Complete the "Tone Colour Worksheet", gathering the information about your three chosen instruments from the Viva Zone website (attached)

3) After you have completed the table in the Tone Colour Worksheet, compare the three instruments using a three way Venn Diagram (attached).
