Liaises with: SLD Manager and subject teachers

It is vitally important for the efficient running of the College that the postholder maintains an excellent record of attendance and punctuality, is able to lead and work within a team, has flexibility and is able to work using initiative and vision.

The post is term time only.

You are employed under the Terms and Conditions of the Catholic Education Service Contract of Employment and within the context of the School Mission Statement, the Governors’ Support Staff Structure document, Pay Policy and other relevant whole school policies and documentation.

Multi-tasking – all support staff may be required to undertake exam invigilation and supervision under the direction of a senior colleague, as required and up to a maximum of two hours per day. Similarly, the role of support staff will involve composite roles which may change from time to time and which will involve multi-tasking. Teaching Assistants will also be required to do two lunchtime supervision half-sessions per week as part of their contract.

Main purpose: The primary focus of the post is to raise pupil achievement in all areas through the efficient discharge of your duties, which directly and indirectly influence the morale of pupils and their capacity to perform well and achieve highly within the school.

To promote the inclusion of all pupils, especially those identified on the SEN register and withEducation, Health and Care Plans.

Main Duties:

  • To have experience working with pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition
  • To liaise with parents at the beginning and end of each day
  • To act as key worker for the child, making sure he is organised for the day and to go through any issues/homework tasks at the end of the day
  • To work with one particular child on a 1:1 basis
  • To ensure speech and language objectives are referred to and used in each lesson.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the child’s privacy and dignity in certain situations is maintained at all times
  • To attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters

Other duties and responsibilities:

  1. To work effectively with other staff towards achieving the College’s Mission through its Strategic School and Team Action Planning within the SIP cycle.
  2. Commitment to the College’s Equal Opportunities’ Policy.
  3. To contribute towards the delivery of high quality education for all students.
  4. To act as a representative for the College in all aspects of work.

Under the direction and supervision of teaching staff, a Teaching Assistant will be required to:

Support Pupils by:

  • Providing support for learning activities
  • Promoting independent learning
  • Helping pupils to develop their literacy skills
  • Helping pupils to develop their numeracy skills
  • Helping pupils to access the curriculum
  • Promoting pupils’ social and emotional development
  • Contributing to the health and well-being of pupils

Support teachers by:

  • Helping with the organisation of the learning environment
  • Contributing to the planning and evaluation of learning activities
  • Assisting in preparing, locating and reproducing learning materials
  • Observing and reporting on pupil performance
  • Supporting strategies to manage pupil behaviour
  • Contributing to the maintenance of pupil records
  • Supporting the use of ICT in classrooms.

Support the school by:

  • Supporting the maintenance of pupil safety and security
  • Supporting school policies with regard to pupil behaviour
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with pupils
  • Liaising effectively and professionally with parents
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with other professionals
  • Supporting the development and effectiveness of the Learning Support Team
  • Reviewing and developing own professional practice
  • Being flexible and adaptable in carrying out these responsibilities.

GENERAL:
