Pet Adoption Application
It is important that you understand two things about the adoption process:
1) The process is the same for everyone
2) Approval is based on the best interest of the animals and is aimed at finding a permanent home.
This application is designed to help people understand the long-term responsibilities of owning a pet.
The SPCA Animal Rescue reserves the right to refuse any application, which we think is not in the animal’s best interest.
Adoption Process
Anyone who wants to adopt an animal from the shelter must fill out a Pet Adoption Application. It is designed to help people understand the long-term responsibilities of owning a pet. The SPCA Animal Rescue will deny any application that it thinks is not in the best interest of the animal. In order to be considered for an adoption you mustbe at least 21 years of age, and have a valid identification with a current address.
No animal can be adopted as a gift or for breeding.
Please note: all animals in the home must be spayed or neutered in order to be approved for adoption.
In most instances a cat can be taken home the same day if the application is approved. There could be a delay if we require a completed Landlord Consent Form (to be provided).
A dog adoption is a longer process.
- Dog adoptions require a minimum of three visits.
- The first visit is for the adults (primary caregivers) in the family.
- The second and third visits are for another family dog, dogs that he/she will spend a lot of time with and/or children.
The Animal Attendantswill observe the visits.
We want the relationship between you and your new companion to be a long and happy one. Please ensure that you are willing to commit to the animal for his/her natural life.
It will take some time for your new companion to become adjusted toa new home. The adjustment period can take as little as two weeks to several months. It is very important that you give your adopted companion the time to adjust to your environment and to go through the training process.
The adoption fee includes: one complimentary veterinarian visit, first set of vaccines, spay/ neuter, de-worming, flea treatment, microchipping, and an Adoption Kit.
All animals being adopted from the SPCA Animal Rescue must be transported home in a safe manner. All dogs must have a proper fitting collar and be on a leash. All cats must be transported in a carrier.
