Learning Objectives

To introduce them to the concept of team work. Children will be encouraged to reflect and transfer their academic specialisms as well as social, leadership listening and communication skills. / LO– to know what contributes towards being an effective team member.
SC-
All- I can identify some improvements that I need to make in order to work more effectively in my team.
Most- I can identify some improvements that myself and my team mates could make in order to work more effectively in my team.
Some- I can achieve the above criteria and make these improvements during today’s tasks.

REVIEW (Starter)

TIME

Show LO and feedback suggestions.
Explain who SR is. Show SR quote and ask, ‘What does it mean?’
Partner talk then feedback ideas
TEACH
Explain social, academic and communicative qualities of Steve’s crew members using the top trumps pages.
Emphasise the importance of encouragement within the team and explain that without this, SR may not have been physically or mentally ready (he was up against much younger competition and had to train harder than everyone else)

Partner Talk

Pupils discuss what their top trump qualities would look like.

APPLY- With review in the middle if necessary.

Explain that there is a challenge inside the envelope.
Explain the check list so that pupils are fully aware of expectations. This must be completed during the exercise.
Children work in groups of 3-4 to solve a series of problems. Problems are differentiated and target individuals strengths.
Use timer to add tension.
Partner / 2 mins
Allow time for children to complete the tick list and communicated how well they think they did.
PLENARY
Ask children to count the total amount of ticks.
Before you award table points to the team with the most ticks, ask for examples.
