Belfast Strategic Partnership’s Lifelong Learning Groupinvites you to be part of the 2018 Belfast Festival of Learning.An annual citywide festival of learning is a key part of our vision of building Belfast as a learning city under the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

Duringtheweekof5-11March2018weareaskingorganisationstoshowcase adiverserangeoflearningopportunities inBelfastforpeopleofallages,all backgroundsandalllocations.Thesemaybealreadyplannedoryoucouldplan onespecificallyforthefestival.We want to create an exciting inclusive programme of events which attracts everyone into learning!

Once again, weparticularly wishtoshowcaseeventsthat encouragetheparticipation ofgroupsandindividualswhohaveexperienced barriersinaccessinglearningopportunities.

We want to promote Belfast as a Learning City for all.

Submit an idea foran event!

Wewanttosupportaswidearangeoforganisationsaspossibletohelp buildtheprogramme andmeetthedifferentneedsoflearnersinthecityby directly creating anddelivering events. Wewilllookateveryideasubmittedwitha viewtoendorsingitunderthe BelfastFestivalofLearning,andwewillco-ordinateand promoteacitywideprogrammeof eventsforthefestival.

Allyouhavetodoiscomplete theattachedEventSubmission Formandsendus yourideasby5.00pm onMonday October 23rd2017.

Whatarewelooking for?

We wantsubmissionsfor imaginative andcreativeeventsthatbuildaprogramme thatreflectsandpromotes themanyreasonspeoplehaveforlearning, whether it is learning for and in work, learning to understand others and live together, learning skills or learning to deal with life’s challenges.

Who can apply?

Wewelcomeideasfromawiderangeofcontributors includingindividualsand organisationssuchascommunitygroups,schoolsandcolleges,artsorganisations, businesses, public bodies and culturalgroups.

Eventsmustreflecttheaimsofthe festivalwhichare:

  • Toengagelearnersofallagesinawiderangeofsettingsacrossthe citywithavarietyoflearningopportunities

TheBSPLifelongLearningThematicGroupwillconsiderrequests forfinancial supportwherenoavailablefunding existstosupportaproposed event. This will beuptoamaximum of£500perevent.

Requests willonlybeconsideredforone-offcostsincludingvenue hire,transportfor learners,promotionofevents,hospitality andlogisticalsupportforrunningevents. Pleaselist detailsof your request for financial support on the Event Submission Form.

Our financial support is very limited and we know it will only cover a small proportion of events. We would therefore welcome applications from organisations that could plan an eventforthisweek,whichtiesinwithouraimsand ethosof making learning accessible and engaging for all, and which do not require financial support. This would help to extend the programme to as many people as possible in the city.

Inaddition,BSP’sFamilyFriendly Belfastinitiativeisofferingfinancialsupportupto£500pereventwithintheBelfast Festival ofLearning,which meetthefollowingadditional criteria:

Festivaleventshavetobeengagingandaccessibleforthewidercommunity.

Howdo you get involved?

Wehaveanopenresponsemethod,askingthatyou complete the Event SubmissionForm.Your submissionwillbeconsidered alongsideotherideasatfestivalprogramming meetings.Apanelwillmeettofinalisetheprogramme andmakedecisions on fundingsupportforeventsandfinaldecisionswillbemadebythe middle of Novemberafterwhichwewillnotifyyouofthepanel’sdecision.

Eventsshouldbeascreativeandimaginativeaspossiblewithanemphasison interactivelearning

Eventorganisersmusttakeresponsibilityforallrelevantinsurances,licensesand healthsafetyrequirements

  • The support of event organisersin publicisingand promoting their particular event(s),andthefestivalasawhole,onanyprintmaterials,socialmediaand websitesavailablewouldbeappreciated
  • We will provide feedback and evaluation processes for use at each event and your responses will be collated into an evaluation report.
