Student Development Specialist II
Purpose
Purpose:
Advise, mentor, and guide TRIO Student Support Services participants through college, develop resources to assist participants in their academic success, and to document these actions.
Essential Functions
Function 1:
Provide individual advising and guidance counseling to participants to address personal, career, academic, and financial concerns. Assess academic need and conduct ongoing evaluation of student progress. Advise students on academic decisions such as degree plan selection and changes, dropping courses, etc. Assist in understanding financial aid options.
60% Time
Function 2:
Administer the College Success Programs and Initiatives; Program Marketing; and Program Outreach. Maintain effective working relationship with other departments for referrals, consultation, and other services. Assist with promoting support services to the faculty, staff, and students at UTA.
10% Time
Function 3:
Assist Director in the recruitment and training of peer mentors. Assist in monitoring their performance.
5% Time
Function 4:
Develop and conduct workshops/seminars in areas related to collegiate skills and life skills, as well as topics related to personal, academic, and career development for college students. Occasionally facilitate the instruction of the workshops.
10% Time
Function 5:
Participate in New Student and Transfer Orientations. Assist Director with department public relations and participation in campus events and activities, such as visiting groups and special projects as assigned.

Accurately document program services for local and federal reporting; maintain accurate contact data for each assigned participant. Assist with the completion of annual performance report, which serves to document services provided by program to participants.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, social work, education, psychology, or a related field. Two years (or more) experience working with college or university student in an advising or counseling setting. Experience and training in administering and interpreting individualized assessments. Demonstrates ability to conduct individual and small group advisement sessions. Experience working with students in developing individualized academic plans of action. Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree or graduate hours in counseling, social work, education, psychology, or a related field. Three years (or more) experience providing direct case management services to college students. Experience working with low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students; TRIO experience. Experience in facilitating and presenting workshops in a college environment. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of computer database software, data collection, data analysis and reporting. Ability to aid in research and grant writing. Excellent communication and team building skills.
