Summer 2015

The 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers will be in 2020. The Parish Council are hoping to arrange various events to commemorate the occasion. Further details will be available later.

A message from the Chairman of Fishtoft Parish Council

I felt very honoured to be re elected to serve as Chairman for a further year at Parish Councils AGM last month.

I am conscious that I follow a long list of past Chairman all of whom have contributed greatly to our Parish, in particular the late Alan Reams, a man whom I admired and respected greatly for his selfless giving to life in our community.

We now have a full compliment of Parish Councillors with a variety of skills and life experiences to bring to our Council and I look forward to working alongside them all.

My aim over the past year and going forward has been to have a presentation before some of our meetings, so far we have had officers from Lincolnshire County Council Highways Department and the Planning Department at Boston Borough Council, this enables us to feel equipped to deal with issues any of you may raise with us.

In 2020 it will be the 400th Anniversary of The Pilgrim Father’s and I hope that Fishtoft will play a significant part in celebrations that are undoubtedly going to take place, to set the scene we have had Luke Skerritt from The Guildhall to speak to us at June’s meeting.

I know that I speak on behalf of my Vice Chairman and fellow Parish Councillors in saying what a privilege and joy it is to work for you all in this capacity, please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything that troubles you, we are here to help, you can also attend our surgeries before our meetings or speak during the public forum once the meetings have begun.

I hope you all have a very happy and pleasant summer.

Kindest Regards

Helen Staples

VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS – LITTER PICKERS

2 years ago the Parish Council launched an appeal for a group of volunteers to help with clearing litter within the parish. This initiative has been very successful and the Parish Council are extremely grateful to those who have become involved, giving their time to make a difference to the area.

We would now like to expand the service and are hoping to increase the number of volunteers. If you feel able to give a few hours to help please contact the Parish Clerk, telephone 01205 352044.

There are no rules on how often or how many hours you would be asked to do – just as many as you can spare or feel comfortable with. You will be provided with the appropriate tools to carry out the job safely and you would be covered by the Councils own insurance.

ACTION FRAUD

What is fraud? Fraud happens when somebody lies or deceives you in order to cause harm, usually by costing you money. Even if you have not lost money, you may have experienced fraud. You may know it better as: scams, cons, cheat, swindle, hoax, hoodwink or confidence trick.

Internet crime: there are many forms of internet crime. EG: phishing emails with links to fake websites to trick you into entering personal details; criminals that attack your computer with a virus or spyware to try and steal personal details, user names or passwords; online auction scams where the seller asks you to pay by money transfer or direct to their bank account. The best way to disrupt criminals using the internet to commit crimes is for you to report it.

You should also be aware of bogus telephone calls; do not give any personal information to anyone purporting to be from your bank or insurance company, or indeed anyone asking for personal details.

If you think you have been a victim or have received bogus calls or emails, you should report them immediately.

Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and internet crime. Members of the public, the police, businesses and charities can report to Action Fraud online or on the phone. If you are reporting via the website there is online chat support provided. As Action Fraud takes crime reports on behalf of the police, reporting directly is likely to be quicker and more convenient for you. If you have been a victim of fraud you will receive a crime reference number when you report it to Action Fraud and your report will be transferred securely to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau for analysis and assessment.

How Do I Contact Action Fraud? The online reporting tool is a straightforward and convenient way to report fraud and internet crime:
