Dear Parents:

The Palmer High Varsity wrestling team is planning on attending two wrestling tournaments out of state in 2013. We plan to attend the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nevada and the Rollie Lane Wrestling Tournament in Nampa, Idaho. Both tournaments will feature some of the top programs in the nation as well as many of the top college recruits. I have been taking wrestlers to tournaments in the lower forty-eight for the last ten years and have seen a number of positives in the wrestler’s that have attended. I have asked the booster club to help support a portion of the costs for both of these trips. Athletes wishing to attend either event will be asked to fund a portion of their trip. Fundraising is a huge task each and every year, but it allows us the opportunity to have new mats, gear, and the ability to compete all over the country. I have developed letters that each athlete can distribute to try and secure individual funding to apply towards each trip.

Reno Tournament of Champions

The Reno Tournament of Champions and College Invitational was created by a group of wrestling enthusiasts during the summer of 1994 who wanted to establish a tournament unlike any other–this “Toughest Tournament in the USA” would bring together the best of the best to raise funds for youth sports programs.

The tournament founders, all former wrestlers, envisioned the event as a true state-by-state high school national championship along with a four-way college dual featuring the best programs in the country. This combined tournament would not only be a great event for competitive wrestling but promised to be exciting enough to build a whole new fan base for this great sport.

The college part of the tournament has grown from a four-way college dual with teams like Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Central Michigan and several other top ten teams to a 16-team invitational. The finals of each of the college tournaments have often featured the same wrestlers who would eventually square off in the finals of the NCAA National Championships. In the last two years, we have seen four double overtimes at each tournament providing the spectators and college athletes alike with an opportunity to see college wrestling at its toughest level.

Every wrestler in the tournament feels as if they are wrestling in a national championship event. We honor six placers with the first three having the honor of being named as an “All American.” Designed by Jostens, Our awards and Outstanding Wrestler rings are of the finest quality and craftsmanship and go to those who are honored as the Toughest Wrestlers in the USA.

Each wrestler is responsible for their own airfare. I encourage you to use air miles and companion fare tickets if available. You do not have to be on the same flight as above, I will meet you at the airport, a shuttle is available and it is a five minute ride.

Due to our recent raffle sales and proceeds from team sponsorships and the Lancer Smith Tournament, the booster club will be covering the entry fee as well as a portion of the hotel room costs. Each wrestler will be asked to contribute $50.00 for hotel rooms.

Varsity

The Rollie Lane tournament will be a very challenging tournament that will allow your son/daughter a chance to compete head to head with some of the top wrestlers in the country. This tournament will feature 48 teams from seven states. Unfortunately, Alaskan wrestlers are over looked many times when it comes to recruiting if they do not travel to top tournaments or have outstanding individual accomplishments.

Junior Varsity

This trip is also available to any interested Junior Varsity athletes. There is a Junior Varsity tournament that will be held in Nampa running concurrent with the varsity tournament. An itinerary will become available shortly for this event.

Due to our recent raffle sales and proceeds from team sponsorships and the Lancer Smith Tournament, the booster club will be covering the entry fee as well as a large portion of the airfare.

****The earlier that tickets are purchased the cheaper that they are. Please let Coach Ewart know a.s.a.p. if your son/daughter is planning on attending so that we can coordinate ticket purchase. Mileage and companion tickets can be used as well. I will need a deposit of $125.00 made to Palmer Moose Wrestling boosters by Wednesday Dec. 5th to ensure your wrestlers commitment to attend and allow ticket purchase. The remaining $125.00 will be due on December 20th.
