POSITION:Finance System Specialist

LOCATION:Kurzman Administration Services, Crary Campus

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is part of the Waterford School District Business Office team and will assist in day-to-day system operations of the school district. This position requires an individual to work collaboratively with Business Office team leadership and team members to provide high quality service to stakeholders internal and external to the District. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal qualities, sound judgment and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

●Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

●3 or more years’ experience in accounting required, K-12 school districts is strongly preferred

●Experience with K-12 Finance Management Systems & supporting modules (SunGard BusinessPLUS preferred)

●Strong understanding of accounting principles, including MDE Bulletin 1022 (Michigan Public School Accounting Manual)

●Ability to document procedures and practices

●Self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision and interact appropriately with others

●Strong numeric / analytic skills

●Good written and verbal communication skills

●Ability to manage time effectively and juggle multiple / competing priorities

●Expertise in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide technical assistance to all District staff that process financial transactions
  • Produce system reports to comply with new Federal, State or Local requirements
  • Financial system maintenance and training of staff
  • Performs accounting analysis, reviews, and compilations necessary for accurate reporting
  • Assist in preparation and validation of monthly financial reports, account reconciliation, and follow up with peers and others as necessary to resolve issues and/or questions
  • Assist in preparation, validation and submission of annual Financial Information Database (FID) reporting to the Michigan Department of Education
  • Assist in preparation, validation and submission of required grant reporting, working in conjunction with other departments within the District as necessary
  • Assist in fiscal year-end activities
  • Validation and entry of journal entries into the financial management system, as needed
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance with Michigan Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education and other applicable entities for functions within the role
  • Maintain process documentation related to the functions within the role, including regular review and updates, as needed, no less than annually
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKDAY/WEEK:Monday – Friday

STARTING DATE:July 24, 2017

COMPENSATION:$54,300 to $65,000
