METHOD STATEMENT /

CLEANING BASINS, BATHS AND SHOWERS

EQUIPMENT

Personal Protective Equipment, as per COSHH sheet
Warning Signs
Cleaning Agent
Non-abrasive pad
Spray bottles
Cloths of appropriate colour
2 buckets of appropriate colour
Supply of soaps/paper towels (where used)

METHOD

1.  Put on Personal protective equipment, the COSHH precautions being followed throughout the procedure.
2.  Assemble equipment and check for safety.
3.  Place warning signs.
4.  Ventilate the area, if appropriate.
5.  Prepare cleaning solution according to manufacturer’s instructions.
HAND BASINS
1.  With colour coded cloth wrung out in cleaning solution, wipe surrounding surfaces including wall tiles, ledges, pipes, waste bin and underneath the basin working from clean to dirty areas.
2.  Remove any objects, e.g. soap, from the basin.
3. Remove any hair or other items from plug, plug-hole and plug chain.
4. Wipe around inside of bowl, including plug, plug chain, taps and overflow.
5.  With running tap water, rinse basin thoroughly, swilling water into overflow.
6.  Wring out cloth and polish stainless steel or chrome.
7.  Replace items removed, replenish soap if necessary and paper towel dispenser, where fitted.
8.  Clean equipment and check for safety.
9.  Return equipment, materials and warning signs to store.
BATHS
1.  With colour coded cloth wrung out in cleaning solution, wipe surrounding surfaces including
wall tiles, ledges, pipes, waste bin, stool, hand rails, bath mat, soap containers or rack and
bath panel, working from clean to dirty areas.
2.  Remove any hair or other items from plug, plug hole and plug chain.
3.  Wipe around inside of bath, including plug, plug chain, taps and overflow.
4.  With running tap water, rinse bath thoroughly, swilling water into overflow.
5.  Wring out cloth and polish stainless steel or chrome.
6.  Replace any items removed, replenish soap if necessary.
7.  Clean equipment and check for safety.
8.  Return equipment, materials and warning signs to store.
SHOWERS
1. With colour coded cloth wrung out in cleaning solution, clean curtain rail, then starting at the
highest point of shower wipe tiles from clean to dirty areas, then wipe shower head , hose,
taps and soap tray.
2.  Remove any hair from drain hole.
3.  If a shower tray is present, clean inside and outside with wrung out colour coded cloth.
4.  Replace items removed and replenish soap if necessary.
5.  Clean equipment and check for safety.
6.  Return equipment, materials and warning signs to store.
SAFETY
Wear personal protective equipment
Never mix cleaning agents as poisonous gases could result.
Use cloths and buckets of a designated colour.
Do not scratch with abrasive items as scratches may harbour harmful bacteria.

CARE OF EQUIPMENT

Wash cloths and allow to dry
Wash Personal protective equipment.
Report any damage to PPE or equipment immediately.
