Subject:CyberTax 2011-04: Emergency Response Procedures

Emergency Response

Recent events are an unfortunate reminder of our need to communicate procedures to meet the challenge of an emergency that could occur at any one of our sites. The emergencies could be injury or serious illness of a volunteer or client, fire or natural disaster, or encountering a threatening person.

An Emergency Response Checklist and an Emergency Contact List will be located at every AARP Tax-Aide Site. Attached is a short paper that will provide broad guidance should any of you encounter a situation at your site that requires emergency response. Every AARP Tax-Aide volunteer is asked take a few minutes to read this paper and to know where the Emergency Response Checklist and the Contact List are kept, when they are finalized.

Local Instructions for emergency response plans are being developed and reviewed by volunteer leaders. There is no "one size fits all" solution so each plan will be tailored by your Local Coordinator to accommodate individual sites and any host plans or requirements. Our goal is to have these plans completed and available at every AARP Tax-Aide site by March. If you have special needs or first aid, CPR and/or general emergency response training and can help during an emergency, please advise your volunteer supervisor.

The safety of our volunteers and the public at AARP Tax-Aide sites is extremely important.

Thanks in advance for reading the attached.

Note: In December, we launched a new Cybertax e-mail management system. Unfortunately, we encountered a number of issues with the system and must temporarily suspend its use. Beginning with this Cybertax and for at least the next couple of months, we will send all Cybertax e-mails to all active AARP Tax-Aide volunteers with an active AARP Tax-Aide e-mail address. For those that wish to unsubscribe from Cybertax, we ask for your patience while the new e-mail management system is being fixed. We will let you know as soon as the unsubscribe feature is available and working properly. Should you become aware of any volunteer that should be receiving Cybertax and is not, please e-mail us at .

Thank you and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
