Scope and objectives

  • To work with the Communications and Campaigns Manager and across the organisation to successfully deliver Play England’s communications and campaigns.
  • To develop, use and promote a range of communications channels to help ensure a high public, media and government profile for Play England’s work.

Specific responsibilities

  • To work with the Communications and Campaigns Manager to implement Play England’s campaigns, including Playday and Love Outdoor Play, making full use of a range of communications channels.
  • To update the Play England websites with accurate and timely information, including writing and proof reading copy, and sourcing and re-sizing images.
  • To monitor and update Play England’s social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube platforms.
  • To support the dissemination of Play England news through a number of channels, coordinating both internal and external contributions.
  • To work with the Communications and Campaigns Manager and NCB media team to develop and deliver media strategies to promote Play England’s work.
  • To work with the team and external contractors to produce a variety of publications and marketing materials.
  • To provide proof-reading and copy-editing support for the Play England team
  • To work with the Communications and Campaigns Manager to monitor and evaluate internal and external communications activities, providing reports as required.
  • To build the Play England membership, marketing the opportunities and communicating the benefits
  • To support the Communications and Campaigns Manager in the development, maintenance and marketing of Play England’s online play map.

General

  • To make an active contribution to the Play England team.
  • To develop excellent relationships with new and existing external and internal stakeholders.
  • To represent Play England in settings relevant to the role as necessary.

Person Specification

Temporary Communications and Campaigns Officer

Essential criteria

  • Proven experience of supporting the implementation of imaginative campaign strategies
  • Experience of supporting the delivery of communication projects from conception to conclusion
  • Demonstrable experience of managing online communications, including websites and social media platforms
  • Excellent proof reading and copy editing skills
  • Experience of working with the media
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of using IT packages, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), website content management systems, desktop publishing software (Adobe InDesign or equivalent), image manipulation software (Adobe Photoshop)
  • Excellent organisation skills and ability to work on own initiative
  • Excellent communications skills, written and oral
  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Experience of working on funded and sponsored programmes
  • Experience of working in an environment or organisation that is centred on dealing with children
