Confirmation Sponsor Form

You have been asked to be a Confirmation sponsor. This is a great privilege. As a sponsor, you will extend in a personal way our Catholic Community’s welcome and support. Through your companionship with the candidate, you will pass on the spirit of community and God’s loving presence as she/he prepares to confirm her/his faith through the Sacrament. Thank you for accepting the call.

The Confirmation sponsor’s role is one of a mentor in the Catholic faith. He/she will present the candidate to the Bishop on the day of Confirmation and in doing this, state that the candidate is fully prepared to not only receive the sacrament of Confirmation, but also to live the Christian life. The sponsor should continue to support the candidate in his/her Catholic faith in the years ahead.

In addition, there will be times I need to “meet” with the candidate to discuss faith sharing questions. This “meet” can include in person or on the phone.

Requirements for Sponsors

The Code of Canon Law established the following. Sponsors must:

●  Be at least 16 year old, Baptized and Confirmed in the Catholic faith

●  Be an active Catholic: “An active Catholic is one who attends Sunday and Holy Day Masses regularly and participated in the Sacramental life of the Church.”

●  Not be a parent of the candidate (biological or adoptive)
