2010 Fall Picnic & Scavenger Race

Registration

No pre-registration. However, you MUST RSVP to in order to participate. All participants will register on site the day of the event.

RSVP

Everyone participating must RSVP by September 29, 2010. In order for us to provide a catered lunch, we need to know how many will be participating. Please DO NOT RSVP unless you are sure you will be attending. Please indicate whether or not you are a Huntsville-SORBA member when emailing your RSVP.

Cost

This event is FREE to all SORBA Huntsville Members. Everyone else is asked to pay $10. This will cover the cost of the Scavenger Race and a catered lunch immediately following the race.

Details

The Scavenger Race will be a competitive Mountain Bike event in which you will be required to find set landmarkswithin the MSSP and Huntsville Land Trust trail system.

There will be a 4 hour time limit to find as many landmarks as possible and take a digital photo of each (to prove you were there). The race will end promptly at 2pm. Participants MUST return to check-in area BEFORE 2pm!! Any participant who fails to return to the check-in area (and turn in their digital camera) before 2pm will be disqualified. The winner will be the person with the most points in the least amount of time.

Landmarks will be marked on a MSSP trail map. Each landmark will have a pre-determined point value, with some landmarks having a higher point value than others. So, not only skill, but strategy will be important in determining your route. The race maps and details will be given out the morning of the event at registration, so you should plan to arrive and register early (8am) in order to have time to study your map prior to the 10am start.

Divisions

There will be 4 Race Divisions. Details are as follows:

Open Money Class: Anyone may enter this category. Payout will be as follows: First Place - $300, Second Place - $200, Third Place - $100.

Males: All males, all ages. Prizes awarded 5 deep.

Females: All females, all ages. Prizes awarded 5 deep.

Family: Any number combination of parent(s) and children. Prizes awarded 5 deep.

Open, Males & Females: These divisions are for solo participants. There are no team divisions. However, participants may choose to ride together and help each other if desired.

Family: This division can be any combination and number of parent(s) and children. However, everyone in the family must stay together at all times. Only one digital camera can be used for each family.

Don’t know whether to enter the Money Class or one of the Prize Classes? Well, since you don’t have to decide until the day of the event, just show up and we will help answer your questions.

What you will need

All participants will be required to have the following: mountain bike, helmet, digital camera, water and $10 (for non SORBA Huntsville members). No one will be allowed to participate without a helmet.

Awards

The Award Ceremony will take place as soon as possible following lunch. You do not have to be present to win. For the Open Money Class, awards will be held by the Event Coordinator for future pick up if the winner(s) are not available at the time of the Awards Ceremony. For all other divisions, a representative must collect the prize during the Award Ceremony if the winner is not available.
